Most of what the world calls love isn't actually love, it's a negotiation built on fear. In A Course in Miracles, love is described as something radically different from the emotional contracts we usually experience. The ego creates what the Course calls special love (relationships built on need, control, sacrifice, or dependency). We look to another person to complete us, validate us, or stabilize our identity. But real love doesn't operate that way.
From a Free Agent perspective, love appears when the patterns of lack, control, sacrifice, and addiction fall away. What's left is two sovereign beings relating freely, without emotional debt. When love stops being medicine for our wounds, it becomes something much more powerful: a field of truth where both people are free to be exactly what they are.
