In Evangelical homes across the United States, sex outside of marriage is a sin against God. So, when Abbi becomes pregnant at 16, her devout parents hide her away at the Liberty Godparent Home, a little-known facility for pregnant teens on the campus of Liberty University. The Home says it helps girls decide what comes next – whether that’s parenting their babies or placing them for adoption. But inside the facility, the girls hear a different message: God wants their babies to go to more “deserving” Christian couples. Some girls will find the strength to fight back. Others will have no choice but to give in. And some, like Abbi, will turn their grief into resistance – and take a stand against the system before more mothers lose their children to adoptions they never wanted.

From Wondery, host and reporter T. J. Raphael tells a startling true story of young love, coercion, and defiance – and the dangerous resurgence of maternity homes in post-Roe America.

Let me start off with that I agree the adoption system needs work and more needs to be done to help places like SOS. But I do not see how a place that promotes ADOPTION can be accused of pressuring and coursing women to put their child up for adoption. The clip you play about the pastor talking about the house, says we will help you with adoption and offer you a scholarship in return. So were is the deception??? Abbie had plenty of options to get out of the house. Her boyfriend and parents offered her to stay at their place if she wanted to get out. Her choices where not because of the house but more her parents. All 3 stories hade different outcomes but those can be said about life and all situations. 2 out of the 3 women in the story took the scholarship and made a good life of themselves. Abbi was able to have the scholarship and a relationship with her son. She is the one that ruined that relationship by stepping in were she was not asked to. The foster parents, I believe had the bigger heart by allowing Addi to be part of their sons life and don't blame them for cutting her off. There are plenty of places like SOS available everywhere that can help with becoming a single parent and adoption. But you can't blame a place that promotes adoption as apposed to abortion for not having the right staff in place to show you how to be a single parent. If this place was so bad, then find another option. You are not prisoners there. And you can not argue that it is hard to find help. All of us know how to use TikTok, FB and Instagram and know how to follow influencers. You can NOT tell me you can't find help with what your situation is. We have to look at your inner circle 1st and who influences you the most 1st before we can blame anyplace offering help as a bad place. My opinion is just based on what I heard on this podcast and have NO affiliation with the house. So I feel I am coming from a common sense perspective. I may not be understanding what your message is here because, if we are talking about how bad the house is, I think you missed the mark. What I hear is a story about the choices that 3 woman made and the house is just a backdrop. This was not a prison and they had a choice to leave or not give their kid up for adoption. Every place offering help, has its bad and good but most is because they are not well trained or higher ups have different priorities but everyone who goes to these places have the choice to leave.
