    Apr 5 2026

The Supreme Court heard arguments from the Trump administration this week to end birthright citizenship, the automatic granting of US citizenship to anyone born in the USA. Their argument centers around the 14th amendment, which was originally created to guarantee citizenship for formally enslaved African Americans.

Join hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers along with guest-host Brittany Packnett Cunningham for this segment from episode #125 that aired on 04-02-26.

On episode 125 of Native Land Pod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers are joined by guest-host, Brittany Packnett Cunningham.

Known for her prominent role in nationwide protests and policing reform, Brittany Packnett Cunningham hosts the hit show UNDISTRACTED, your weekly guide to the revolution. Vote for her in the Webby Awards below!

Trump signs EO directing creation of a national voter list

It’s been a busy week in court for Trump: a federal judge said the ending of PBS/NPR funding was unconstitutional. Another Judge ordered him to halt construction on the White House Ballroom. Yet another Judge ruled that the Trump administration must restore legal status for thousands of detained/deported immigrants.

In addition, the Supreme Court heard arguments from the Trump administration this week to end birthright citizenship, the automatic granting of US citizenship to anyone born in the USA. Their argument centers around the 14th amendment, which was originally created to guarantee citizenship for formally enslaved African Americans.

What do we do when our favorite artists show conservative? Chilli, from the legendary girl-group TLC, was outed recently for donating to Republicans. She’s denied being “MAGA” but her online activity shows otherwise. How do we hold Black artists like her, Nick Cannon, Usher, 50 Cent, and others accountable without discounting what their work means to us?

  • Don’t Paper Over Icons | Angela Rye SoloPod
    Mar 31 2026

A promoter in Seattle was caught RED-HANDED covering a Black Lives Matter mural of Rahwa Habte with concert posters. Local community member (and our guest for today), Omari Salisbury, confronted him in a video that’s since gone viral.

Our host, Angela Rye, will talk to Omari about the confrontation, and why seeing Rahwa’s mural covered struck such a nerve, as part of the larger gentrification happening in his neighborhood.

  • Black Mayors Roundtable: Protecting Our Cities from Federal Overreach
    Mar 30 2026

Our very own Andrew Gillum hosts a town hall with Black mayors to discuss how local leaders are responding to federal actions (and inactions), and what protections cities are able to provide to their residents.

Federal law enforcement actions are ramping up within our cities, directly impacting Black and immigrant communities. Residents are looking to mayors for leadership and protection while cities face legal constraints, political pressure, and public scrutiny.

The Mayors will speak candidly about what local power truly looks like in practice, where their power starts and ends, and what strategies are currently in use.

    Guests Include:

Mayor Frank Scott of Little Rock, AR

Mayor Van Johnson of Savannah, GA

Mayor Leonardo Williams of Durham, NC

  • This California Sheriff Has Lost His Mind | NLP Replay
    Mar 29 2026

California Sheriff, and candidate for governor, Chad Bianco, is chasing clout with Republican voters by launching a phony investigation into California’s 2025 election. He’s confiscated more than 500K ballots from his own Riverside county.

California’s 2025 election saw the passage of Prop 50, which redrew electoral maps in Democrats favor. The Sheriff says the confiscated ballots will show vote-count discrepancies. More likely, all they will show is how normalized undermining democracy has become amongst Republican candidates chasing viral fame.

Join hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers, along with guest-host Cari Champion, for this segment from episode #124 that aired on 03-26-26

Solange’s son Julez Smith (21) was seen in a social media post on a date with reality star Tommie Lee (41). It has revived an age-old conversation: how young is too young? Is it any different for young men dating older women than vice-versa?

  • It’s March MADNESS: From Basketball to Ballots
    Mar 26 2026

It’s March MADNESS on episode 124 of Native Land Pod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers are joined by friend-of-the-show, Cari Champion!

Cari Champion is a broadcast journalist, co-host of Flagrant and Funny with Jemele Hill, and host of NAKED with Cari Champion on Black Effect.

    FOR YOUR SITUATIONAL AWARENESS:

Trump admonishes Congress to pass the SAVE Act, “Do it for Jesus.”
Breonna Taylor’s mom criticizes DOJ’s request to dismiss charges against officers
    Afroman wins defamation lawsuit.
Syracuse loses to UConn, Syracuse Head Coach Complains.
United Airlines Announces a new ticket-level for “relax row” (it sucks)
Delta Airlines suspends perks for members of Congress over airport delays

There is a connection between the manufactured chaos at our airports, Project 2025, and Trump’s efforts to manipulate the midterm elections. Far-right strategist and conspiracy-podcast host, Steph Bannon, has said the quiet part out loud: ICE is being groomed to police the polls. The viral propaganda that Bannon pushes has empowered folks like CA Sheriff Chad Bianco to pursue phony election investigations; he’s confiscated hundreds of thousands of ballots that will be used to produce more conspiracy content, and boost the sheriff’s gubernatorial campaign.

Meanwhile, Republicans struggle to pass the SAVE Act, which would curtail millions of Americans' right to vote, and the Supreme Court seems ready to put restrictions on mail-in ballots. If voting weren’t important, they wouldn’t be trying so hard to keep you from doing it!

The show ends on a lighter note, our hosts share their brackets for March Madness, college basketball.
