In the Mizoram Legislative Assembly elections, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) won 27 seats out of 40 seats to come in power for the next term. The Mizo National Front (MNF) led by former chief minister Zoramthanga won 10 seats, even as he lost in Aizwal East-I against Lal Thansanga by a margin of 2,101 votes. The two national parties, Congress and BJP, only managed to win one and two seats, respectively.
