Maya Millete told her sister on New Year's Eve 2020: if anything happens to me, it was Larry. Seven days later, she walked through her front door in Chula Vista, California and was never seen again. Her phone died that night. Her body has never been found. Her husband, Larry Millete, has been charged with her first-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty.

What investigators uncovered inside this marriage reads like nothing else in American true crime. Larry Millete allegedly paid over $1,000 to online spellcasters — starting with love spells, escalating to requests for broken bones, car accidents, and cancer. He left a five-star customer review for one of them like he was rating a lunch order. He hid subliminal audio speakers throughout the house. He searched "subliminal wife training" on the family computer. He Googled Rohypnol. Maya found the devices. She stopped taking the vitamins he gave her because they made her drowsy. She kept a private diary suggesting she believed she was being poisoned. And on the last day anyone heard from her, Larry sent his final spellcaster email two minutes before she pulled into the driveway.

That night, a neighbor's camera recorded nine loud banging sounds from the Millete home. The next morning, Larry drove the family Lexus for eleven hours with his phone turned off, racking up hundreds of unexplained miles. He asked a neighbor to clean the car. He deleted every text between himself and Maya. He told her family she was locked in a room. When they forced the door open, the room was empty.

This is Larry Millete: The Witch Doctor Murder Trial — an ongoing series covering this case as it unfolds. New episodes drop as developments break: pretrial rulings, jury selection, trial testimony, witness revelations, verdicts, and everything in between. If you're searching for Larry Millete trial updates, Maya Millete case coverage, the Chula Vista missing mom murder trial, the Millete spellcaster evidence, no-body murder cases, or the witch doctor murder prosecution — this is where you follow it in real time.

Every episode is evidence-first, victim-centered, and legally sourced from court testimony, public records, and verified reporting. No speculation. No filler. Just the facts of a case that has taken over five years to reach a courtroom — and the family that never stopped fighting to get it there.

  • Larry Millete: Investigation, Arrest, and Custody War
    Apr 16 2026

This is Part 4 of a five-part series on the Larry Millete case. This episode covers three overlapping storylines: the investigation that led to Larry's arrest, the family's search efforts, and the custody battle over Maya and Larry's three children. The investigation timeline: Larry hired an attorney and stopped cooperating in February 2021. Reports surfaced in April that he wanted to hire someone to harm the man Maya was allegedly seeing. In May, police seized his firearms under a GVRO after the children reported feeling unsafe. In July, he was named a person of interest. On October 19, 2021, he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and possession of an assault weapon. DA Summer Stephan publicly detailed the evidence and asked the public to help locate Maya's body. The custody timeline: Maricris Drouaillet filed for guardianship in November 2021. Larry's parents opposed. The case was delayed by Larry's competency proceedings, financial disputes, and deposition delays. The guardian ad litem recommended Maricris, noting that Larry's parents had blocked therapy and undermined visitation. Judge Ronald Frazier ruled in Maricris's favor on August 12, 2024. The children moved to Riverside County.Larry Millete has pleaded not guilty. Trial set for May 11, 2026.
