Ontspoord is het eerste deel in een suspense-serie over ex-detective Thomas Ravnsholdt, ook wel Ravn genoemd, die als privé-detective wordt ingehuurd om vermiste personen op te sporen. Ravn wordt uit zijn verdriet gerukt wanneer een goede vriend hem om hulp vraagt bij het vinden van een jong meisje dat een paar jaar eerder spoorloos is verdwenen. Het onderzoek dwingt Ravn om terug te gaan naar zijn oude werkplek en dus ook naar de Kopenhaagse onderwereld. Hier wijst alles erop dat het meisje is verkocht aan de grote crimineel Slavros, die een netwerk van bordelen in Europa heeft.
