Charlie Savage has been writing about a Christian law school whose graduates have become influential in the Justice Department. The school is the Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, which was founded by televangelist Pat Robertson.

British comedian, stand-up performer, and actor Eddie Izzard on this edition of Fresh Air. Izzard is currently selling out venues in the U.S. and Canada with his new stand-up show Circle. He has won over fans with his quirky comedy and his cross-dressing. The Chicago Tribune says, "Izzard lives up to his billing. He's very bright, very fast, and very hip."

Writer Armistead Maupin on this edition of Fresh Air. Maupin is the creator of the award-winning newspaper serial turned TV series Tales of the City. His new book, The Night Listener, is his first novel in eight years. It examines the relationship that grows between a cult writer and one of his younger radio fans; critics have noted the autobiographical subtext to the story. Maupin won the 1998 Peabody Award for his work in television and has written several novels and two collections of essays. He lives in San Francisco.

Writer Sarah Waters and actor John Malkovich on this edition of Fresh Air. Sarah Waters is the author of three novels which she calls "lesbo Victorian romps." The lesbian themed books are: Tipping the Velvet, Affinity, and Fingersmith. Fingersmith was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Tipping the Velvet was made into a BBC miniseries and it will be shown on the cable channel BBC America later this month.

Political Analyst Alan Schroeder on this edition of Fresh Air. Alan Schroeder's new book Presidential Debates: Forty Years of High-Risk TV, examines the history of the televised presidential debate. Drawing from his experience as a print journalist and TV producer, he details the decisions that influence every aspect of the event: the color of the backdrop curtain to the camera angles chosen.

Hear guitarist and vocalist Jack White and drummer Meg White of the band the White Stripes, film critic David Edelstein, and actor Brian Cox on this edition of Fresh Air. The White Stripes' new album is called Icky Thump. It's their sixth release. The duo has tried to keep their relationship a mystery, claiming to be, variously, brother and sister or husband and wife.

He takes a look at the crucial moments when a President risked his political career for the good of the country, often by taking an unpopular or controversial stand.

Novelist Francine Prose and singer and guitarist Alex Chilton on this edition of Fresh Air. Prose's new book Blue Angel echoes the title of the film classic.

Writer and historian Jay Winik and a day in the life of journalist Andrew Kromah on this edition of Fresh Air. Winik's new book, a best seller, is April 1865. He writes that April 1865 is a month that "could have unraveled the American nation. Instead it saved it." During that month, the Civil War ended with Lee's surrender, Lincoln was assassinated, and the rebuilding of the nation began.

Writer/producer Judd Apatow and novelist, screenwriter and biographer, A.E. Hotchner on this edition of Fresh Air. Judd Apatow's new series for FOX is called Undeclared. He's billed as the creator/executive producer. It's about a group of geeky college freshmen. Apatow also worked on the Emmy award winners Freaks and Geeks and The Ben Stiller Show.

Historian Stephen E. Ambrose. His new book is The Wild Blue: The Men and Boys who Flew the B-24s Over Germany.

Scientist and conservationist Dr. Alan Rabinowitz and Irish film director Jim Sheridan on this edition of Fresh Air. Dr. Alan Rabinowitz has been called the "Indiana Jones" of wildlife science. He is Director of the Science and Exploration Program at the Wildlife Conservation Society, based at the Bronx Zoo in New York. In 1985 his research in Belize resulted in the world's first jaguar sanctuary.

Novelist Alice Sebold and comedian and late night talk show host Jay Leno on this edition of Fresh Air. Alice Sebold's the author of the book, The Lovely Bones which will be coming out in paperback. Fresh Air book critic Maureen Corrigan listed The Lovely Bones as one of the ten best books of 2002. Sebold is also the author of the memoir, Lucky.

Journalists Sebastian Junger and Charles Sennott on this edition of Fresh Air. Sebastian Junger's just returned from Afghanistan where he was traveling with the Northern Alliance. Last year,he was also in Afghanistan following Ahmad Shah Massoud, (known as the "Lion of Panjshir"), the legendary leader of the guerrilla war against the Soviets, who had been fighting the Taliban.

Composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim and actor Greg Kinnear on this edition of Fresh Air. Sondheim was mentored by Oscar Hammerstein, and went on to revolutionize musical theatre. His first major success was writing lyrics for West Side Story. He also composed the music and wrote the lyrics for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Follies, and A Little Night Music to name a few.

First, classical-music critic Lloyd Schwartz pays tribute to opera singer Beverly Sills, who died Monday at the age of 78 from lung cancer. Then, we feature a 1985 interview with Sills. Also, film critic David Edelstein reviews Rescue Dawn, the first Hollywood feature film by Werner Herzog.

Hear Pulitzer-prize-winning journalist David Halberstam and music critic Milo Miles on this edition of Fresh Air. Halberstam died yesterday from injuries received in a car crash. He was 73. We listen to his interviews on Fresh Air, from 1985 and from June 3, 1993, and January 21, 1999. Halberstam was part of the 1964 Pulitzer-prize winning team that covered the emerging war in Vietnam for The New York Times.

Children's TV host Fred Rogers on this edition of Fresh Air. Rogers died of stomach cancer on February 27, 2003, at the age of 74. His popular show, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, was the longest-running program on public television. It ended in 2001 after 33 years on the air. Elaine Pagels latest book, Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas, is about a religious text that is little known - the secret Gospel of Thomas, rediscovered in Egypt in 1945. She will explain why it was suppressed by the church and kept out of the cannon.
