The whole question of women in history is an elusive one as the most written about ladies tend to be Queens, born or married into positions of power. Some, like the very English Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria, built on their birthright with the power of their personalities to enjoy long and successful reins, while others made the history books for all the wrong reasons. And it is to this latter category that the subject of our journal, Marie Antoinette the most famous Queen of France, belongs.

When you look through the history books, even those of more recent years, the pages are full of wars, and whether between ancient dynasties or modern states, the horrific consequences always leave readers wondering how such atrocities can happen. However, to learn from the past is of vital importance for the generations that follow, despite on occasion, humanity, seeming to make the same mistakes, over and over again. In fact hindsight is of course a wonderful thing, and this is never truer than when considering the major conflicts of the 20th Century and the Second World War in particular....

When Adolf Hitler stormed to power in Germany during the 1930s, he experienced little opposition for his plans to re-build his adopted homeland after the restraints put upon the country and the reparations they were forced to pay to the victorious Allies in the aftermath of the First World War. Nevertheless, it may come as a surprise to discover that as early as 1938, even before the outbreak of World War II, conspiratorial groups had developed within the German army, with the objective of actually preventing Hitler launching a global conflict.
