Tom is off on a school activity trip in the fifth instalment in Liz Pichon's best-selling series. Exciting news! Mr Fullerman announces that class 5F are going on an activity break! Which should be fun. As long as I don't get stuck in a group with anyone who snores or, worse still, with...Marcus Meldrew. Delia is already threatening to paint my room funny colours while I'm away. Which is annoying. I just hope the only surprise I have when I get home is the new pet that I hear Mum and Dad talking about.

Happy face or sad face? The future of Tom’s school trip depends on an emoji! Welcome back to the amazing world of Tom Gates! But right now, it’s not looking quite as amazing as usual. Tom’s trying really hard to stay out of trouble. But he’s got three sad faces on the school achievement chart. Just one more sad face means Mr Fullerman will ban him from the school trip. Moany Marcus is making things worse. And now Tom’s upset his grumpy sister Delia.

Oh no! Tom's stuck at home with a fractured ankle, and it's spoiling his fun. Doodling on his plaster cast helps to pass the time, along with visits from family (with treats), friends and even Rooster managing to sneak in. Tom remembers other fun times he's had, like metal detecting with Uncle Kevin and the cousins or inventing a new secret language with Derek. But only one thing will cheer Tom up - a caramel doughnut from the new bakery...trouble is, every other kid in town keeps getting there before him!

Hurray - it’s half term! A lovely week off school, with all sorts of cool things to do. Oh no! It’s half term, but Tom’s mum and dad forgot about it and have absolutely nothing planned. Oops. But hey - when it comes to keeping busy, Tom is never stuck for ideas. So he’s created his own cool book of amazing stuff to do! A week of doodling, stories, activities and mayhem with Tom and the gang. Farewell, boredom!

Bei Tom geht es mal wieder drunter und drüber. Seine Mutter entrümpelt das Haus und schnappt sich dabei alles, was nicht niet- und nagelfest ist. Auf dem Flohmarkt blamiert ihn sein Vater, indem er seine oberpeinlichen Outfits unters Volk bringen will. Und dann geht in der Schule auch noch ein fieser Bazillus um. Katastrophen sind vorprogrammiert - und Tom muss versuchen, zu retten, was zu retten ist.

Toms Familie beschließt, einen Ausflug zu machen. Er ist schon ganz aufgeregt: Es wird bestimmt megaspannend! Doch dann besichtigen sie ein düsteres altes Schloss, in dem man nichts anfassen darf. Bis sich die Gates-Familie in einem Labyrinth verirrt - und auf einmal geht alles schief.

Tom wünscht sich einen Hund. Aber leider wird da nichts draus, weil seine nervige Schwester Delia allergisch gegen Hunde ist. Voll unfair! Immerhin ist Tom auch allergisch gegen Delia, und die darf trotzdem mit ihm unter einem Dach leben... Also konzentriert sich Tom jetzt auf den Musikwettbewerb eines Magazins. Ob er und seine Band, die Dogzombies, wohl eine Chance haben? Das wäre einfach genial!

Tom ist cool, witzig und frech. Und außerdem sehr erfindungsreich. Ständig hat er Unsinn im Kopf. Darunter haben ganz besonders die Lehrer und seine Schwester Delia zu leiden. Denn irgendwer muss ja ausbaden, was Tom so anstellt. Aber niemand nimmt ihm das wirklich übel, weil Tom nie böse Absichten hat. Manchmal laufen die Dinge nur anders als geplant. Wie Tom seine lustigen Pläne schmiedet, kann man auf diesem Comic-Hörbuch hören. Aber Vorsicht – die Lachmuskeln werden ordentlich strapaziert!

Tom kann sein Glück kaum fassen: Die Schulheizung fällt aus und alle bekommen Kältefrei - einfach genial! Wären da nur nicht die neuen Nachbarn, die unerklärlicherweise Toms laute DUDE3-Musik ganz und gar nicht mögen, und Omas oberpeinliche Strickmütze in Form einer Torte, die Tom auf keinen Fall tragen kann.

Sensationelle Neuigkeiten: Eine Klassenfahrt steht an! Das klingt nach jeder Menge Spaß, und Tom hat schon einige Spitzenideen (Mitternachtsparty, Streiche aushecken, Nachtwanderung...). Das könnte die absolut beste Zeit seines Lebens werden! Doch dann stellt er fest, dass er blöderweise vergessen hat, das Anmeldeformular abzugeben. Und dass er ein Zimmer mit dem obernervigsten Typen der Welt teilen soll. Da sind gute Lösungen gefragt!

Katastrophe! Papa Gates hat angekündigt, am Sportwettbewerb von Toms Schule teilzunehmen. Das kann nur wieder eine total peinliche Nummer werden, die Toms Ruf für immer ruinieren wird. Er muss das um jeden Preis verhindern! Und dann ist da noch dieser Talentwettbewerb, den Tom als angehender Rockstar unbedingt gewinnen muss.

Tom ist total aus dem Häuschen. Die Vorbereitungen für seine Geburtstagsparty laufen auf Hochtouren. Nun muss er nur noch sichergehen, dass alles nach Plan läuft. Was gar nicht so einfach ist, wenn man eine Oma hat, die Geburtstagstorten mit Würstchen-Garnitur für eine Delikatesse hält. Oder wenn Papa meint, dass ein DJ im Dino-Kostüm und mit Glitzerstiefeln total angesagt ist. Oh Mann!

Tom hat es echt nicht leicht. Irgendeine höhere Macht möchte um jeden Preis verhindern, dass er eine gute Note für seine Hausaufgabe bekommt. Ständig schlägt das Unheil in Form von RIESENGLÄSERN Wasser, ausgelaufenen Füllern, gefräßigen Hunden oder von Bazillen befallenen Papierseiten zu. Und er kann nun mal wirklich nichts dafür, dass er kurz vor seinem Auftritt mit der oberpeinlichen Schulband von einem furchtbaren Instrumentenarmleiden ereilt wird! Einfach zum Totlachen! Ein Muss für alle Tom-Fans und die, die es noch werden wollen!

Au Backe! Tom hat alle Hände voll zu tun mit dem neuen Schulprojekt, das sich sein Lehrer Mr. Fullerman ausgedacht hat: ein Familienstammbaum! Zu Toms Familie gehören neben seinen Eltern und seiner OBERNERVIGEN Schwester Delia (grrr...) natürlich seine besten Freunde (und Bandmitglieder) und - wenn es nach Tom ginge - auch ein eigenes HAUSTIER (ein Hund!). Doch halt! Von wem stammt eigentlich dieses Quietschen aus Toms Schuhen?

Au Backe! Hat Tom da etwa richtig gehört? Plant Papa allen Ernstes einen Campingausflug? Die Reaktionen der Familie Gates sind durchwachsen: Mama in Panik, Tom total dafür, Delia mürrisch (also wie immer). Das kann ja heiter werden... Ob sich Papas Idee vielleicht doch noch als absoluter Volltreffer entpuppt und Tom den besten Urlaub aller Zeiten erlebt?

Tom hat große Pläne mit seiner Band DogZombies - die soll nämlich die beste Band der Welt werden. Dafür müssen neue, freche Songs und ein Musikvideo her. Aber Tom wäre nicht Tom, wenn dabei alles glattlaufen würde.
