"Heidi" (1881) by Johanna Spyri is a charming novel about an orphaned girl. She was initially raised by her aunt Detie in Maienfeld, Switzerland after the early deaths of her parents, Tobias and Adelheid (Detie's sister and brother-in-law). Detie brings 6-year-old Heidi to her paternal grandfather's house, up the mountain from Dörfli. He has been at odds with the villagers and embittered against God for years and lives in seclusion on the alm. This has earned him the nickname Alm-Uncle.

Som 5-årig bliver den forældreløse Heidi sendt op for at bo sammen med sin bedstefar, der bor oppe på et bjerg i de schweiziske alper. Alle i landsbyen nede i dalen har ondt af hende, for bedstefaren er kendt for at være en gammel gnavpotte, der helst holder sig for sig selv. Men Heidi finder hurtigt ud af, at hendes bedstefar slet ikke er så sur og kedelig, som alle går og tror. Derudover er der meget smukt oppe på bjerget, bedstefarens hytte er hyggelig, og han har to søde geder, som Heidi hurtigt bliver venner med.

Efter sit ophold i Frankfurt bor Heidi nu igen på alpen sammen med sin elskede bedstefar. Hun holder kontakt med Klara der næste sommer kommer på besøg sammen med Bedstemamma. Klara nyder de nye omgivelser og den friske gedemælk, der hurtigt gør hende både sundere og stærkere. Men Gede-Peter, der er vant til at have Heidi for sig selv, er så jaloux på Klara, at han laver nogle ulykker, der får uventede følger for ham selv og for beboerne på alpen.

Wunderbar und sehr einfühlsam umgesetzt von Tina Haseney. Das Waisenmädchen Heidi lebt bei ihrem Großvater in den Schweizer Bergen. Mit 8 Jahren wird sie nach Frankfurt, zu dem auf den Rollstuhl angewiesenen Mädchen Klara, zur Unterhaltung gebracht. Die beiden Mädchen freunden sich an. Doch das große Heimweh macht Heidi krank und sie wird zurück zu ihrem Großvater gebracht.
