The kingdom totters on the brink of chaos. The royal family is dead, the old faith has been purged, and the sacred prophecies have been overthrown. Or so it was believed.

When Vale ventures out of the highlands to visit her local healer, she unwittingly walks into the middle of a blood inquisition. Stranger still, the king's soldiers have been spreading a description of her. Threatened with capture, torture, and execution, her mentor, Matias, convinces her the only way to survive is by leaving. She abandons her home and ventures south, chasing whispers of rebellion and war.

Then Matias shatters what is left of her world by telling her everything she thought she knew was a lie. Disturbed by what she has heard, craving answers, and worried her mother will suffer in her place, Vale flees back to her quiet valley, where she is once again caught in the middle of a violent struggle.
