After being so incredibly hooked on book 1, I obviously needed this one as soon as it went live! It did continue with the intrigue and fast-pace at first / mostly.

Written in alternating, first-person POVs.
Past tense.

Admittedly, I’m more of a plot girling and so that several-chapters-long steamy ‘play’ scene was skimmed for me. I got impatient. Mentioning it though, because I know a lot of people specifically look for this—it’s here!!

There was no shortage of suspense-y moments, action and danger—so fun!

This was the first series/duet I've read/listened to by Lucy Smoke and A.J Macey. It was dark, steamy, suspenseful, and we get a great conclusion! I was once again on a long trip and was able to listen without interruptions. I will relisten to both audiobooks in the future.

The narrators are excellent! They are favorites of mine that know how to bring a story to life. Emotional performances that had it rolling like a movie in my head. Perfection!

Cruel Master is the second book in the Sinister Arrangement series. These books need to be read in order, as this book starts off where book one ends. This is the continuation of Gavin and Angel and is told from both of their points of view.

This starts off with Gavin still searching for Angel after she got away. When he gets her back he will not let her out of his site again. However, there are other forces that are also trying to keep them apart.

Can Gavin and Angel get through everything that is thrown at them? There were twists and turns I didn't see coming. Can Angel and Gavin learn to love each other, or will they go their separate ways?

This may be dark, but it's also delicious. I'm not keen on all aspects of Gaven Belmonte's reclaiming of his estranged wife, Evangeline (Angel) Price Belmonte, but I also found it impossible to look away.

It gets really hot in here. I thoroughly enjoyed the club scene 🥵 and the introduction to (what I'm assuming are) former couples. As this is my first book from Lucy Smoke and AJ Macey, my TBR is gaining some company.

Gaven is a top-of-the-line alphahole who is also extremely possessive and protective of his wife. Well, protective from everyone except him. His torture of her is pleasurable and painful. It's possible that I have clenched my thighs and winced at certain parts. And by possible, I mean I totally did that.

As for Angel, some of her decisions show her lack of maturity and how disconnected she and Gaven were at the start of their relationship. Still, she's a fighter with a ton of sass that I love.

I listened to the audio book. The narrators, Michael Norman Johnson and Sarah Puckett, are great in duet. Their voices are terrific choices for these characters! 🎧❤️🎧

This is book 2 in Smoke and Macey's Sinister Arrangement series. A great addition to the series, this book completes the journey of our main characters Gavin and Angel. These two are so well matched as the cruel mater and his wicked angel. I loved the push and pull these two had and the character growth with Angel. There is great balance of danger, suspense, kink, chemistry and even some sweet romance as well. Definitely vengeance and punishment but I love how willey Angel has become in the years away and how dedicated Gavin remained. I loved the secondary characters and the parts that they played in this as well. A wonderfully well narrated, dark romance read / listen.
