Beautiful monsters wear the most alluring disguises... and the deadliest one just walked into my gallery.

As a successful gallery owner in Boston, I thought I knew who I was.

Then Nikolai Ivanov walked into my life, and everything changed.

Dangerous, magnetic, and impossibly controlling, he awakens something dark within me.

His obsession should terrify me—the cameras hidden in my apartment, the way he appears exactly when I need him, how he seems to know my every move.

Instead, I find myself drawn deeper into his world of power and control.

But Nikolai isn't the only one with secrets.

As threats emerge from the shadows, I discover my past isn't what it seems.

Every revelation pulls me further from my carefully curated life and deeper into a world where danger and desire blur into one.

Now, caught between the man who claims me as his and the mysteries of my own history, I must decide: do I fight the darkness within or embrace it?

In this game of power and passion, there's no going back. And maybe I don't want to.

Character Backgrounds and Plot Overview

Nikolai Ivanov steps into this story as a powerful and deeply intimidating figure within the mafia world. He is older, highly controlled, and used to getting exactly what he wants. His life has been shaped by violence, loyalty, and authority, and those traits define how he approaches everything, including relationships. Nikolai is not written as a softened or redeemed hero. He leans fully into the darker side of the genre, especially when it comes to obsession and control.

Sofia is much younger and begins the story in a far more vulnerable position. She is not naïve, but she is unprepared for the intensity of Nikolai’s focus. What makes her compelling is her ability to adapt. She is observant, emotionally reactive, and gradually becomes more aware of the dangerous world she has been pulled into. While Nikolai dominates the dynamic early on, Sofia’s internal strength becomes more visible as the story progresses.

The plot revolves around Nikolai’s fixation on Sofia and the way that fixation escalates into a full-blown obsession. This is where the stalker romance element takes center stage. His attention is constant, invasive, and intense, creating a sense of tension that drives the narrative forward. Set against a backdrop of mafia power struggles and hidden dangers, the story blends psychological suspense with romance. The relationship evolves under pressure, with both external threats and Nikolai’s own possessiveness shaping the journey.

Highlights and Limitations

The strongest element of Stalk Me is how fully it commits to the dark romance tone. This is not a light or softened version of the genre. The stalker aspect is front and center, and it is written in a way that creates both tension and intrigue. If you enjoy obsessive heroes and morally gray dynamics, this book delivers that in a very consistent way. romance is one of my favorite tropes, I just love a man who tries to get to know his woman by sneaking around and watching her. A lot of the things our dark romance stalkers get up to are triggers for people and definitely not something I would want in a boyfriend, but boy are they fun to read about.

At the same time, the age gap trope is a clear limitation depending on personal taste. The dynamic between Nikolai and Sofia leans heavily into that imbalance of power, and it is not something the story tries to minimize. For listeners who already find large age differences uncomfortable, this may be difficult to fully enjoy. The inclusion of “daddy” language during intimate scenes is another aspect that can be off putting. If that element does not work for you, it may interrupt immersion even when the rest of the story is working well. Personally, I struggle with age-gaps because I think that inevitably after the HEA, the Hero will end up dying years, if not decades before the heroine. And the Daddy language is just gross to me.

Personally, I didn’t like Sofia all that much to begin with and when that happens, I often wonder how much of that is how the character was written and how much is the narrator. Autum Ivy had her voice match the character as far as I can tell, but her haughtiness and snooty tone really bothered me in the beginning. I also didn’t like how Sofia kept going from kicking Nikolai our of her office, to making out with him and right back to threatening to kick him out within seconds. Every encounter with Nikolai follows the same trajectory as well.

I did like the fact that Sofia had some secrets, that she doesn’t even know herself. There were some parts of her past that she can’t remember, and she has skills that she can’t remember learning. Her adoptive parents were murdered when she was younger also, and Nikolai has a thought that some of the things in her past were related.

Narration and Performance

Tor Thom delivers a strong performance as Nikolai, capturing the character’s authority and darker edge with a deep, commanding tone. His voice suits the role well and adds weight to Nikolai’s obsessive and controlling nature. He is particularly effective in conveying tension, which enhances the darker atmosphere of the story.

Autumn Ivy brings a softer but emotionally expressive performance to Sofia. She does a good job of conveying vulnerability while still showing glimpses of strength and determination. Her delivery helps ground the character and makes her reactions feel genuine, especially in moments of fear or emotional conflict.

The narration style works well overall, with clear differentiation between characters and a steady pacing that supports the tension of the story. While it is not a full duet style, the alternating perspectives still create a dynamic listening experience. The chemistry between the narrators adds to the emotional intensity, particularly in scenes where the relationship shifts or escalates.

Final Thoughts

Stalk Me is a solid introduction to the Beautiful Monsters series and will appeal strongly to listeners who enjoy dark mafia and stalker romance. It embraces its themes without hesitation, offering a story that is intense, obsessive, and rooted in morally complex characters.

That said, it is not without its challenges. The age gap dynamic and specific intimacy language are likely to be divisive. If those elements are already a concern, they may stand out enough to impact your overall enjoyment. Your reaction will depend on how much weight you give those aspects compared to the rest of the story.
