His obsession for me is deadly, and I’m falling prey to his pleasure.
There’s never been any security in my life. After being dumped on indifferent relatives as a child, it hurt when I realized that no one was ever going to protect me.
But Cullan, my boyfriend’s father, makes me feel safer than any man I’ve ever known. He’s twice my age and totally forbidden, but his protective embraces, deep voice, and inked muscles have awoken things in me that I shouldn’t want.
When darkness swallows me, it’s Cullan who pulls me into his strong arms and leads me back into the light. He gives me protection, and a job as a nanny to his very young child. But I suspect that Cullan is drenched in his own darkness. There’s a killer on the loose in the city, and I think I know the identity of the man behind the red mask.
My instincts tell me to run from Cullan as fast as I can, but my boyfriend’s father has stolen my heart with hands that are soaked in blood.
And though it should be impossible, I think I’m having his baby.
Author’s note: Soft Tissue Damage is a standalone boyfriend’s father MF romance with dark themes, a twenty-year age gap, the hero as the other man, breeding, a jealous and possessive alphahole, and a sweet but strong virgin heroine. This audiobook features appearances of characters from Fear Me, Love Me. The story is dark, dirty and delicious, so please listen at your discretion.

Some of it was the pacing- it felt like a long time to set up the plot and dynamic, and then the relationship itself felt rushed, lacked emotional substance, and didn't develop past the same insta-love one note. It was also a slower burn- but didn't lack major tension leading up to it because the heroine was pretty clueless as to what was going on. I think my other issue was just all the elements not quite connect or truly evolve. All the stuff with her family, exploring our (anti)heroes sudden and abrupt serial killer tendencies...and her chill acceptance of it. There was just so much interesting content that could have been more psychologically and emotionally explored and instead of feeling integral it just felt sort of inserted...for the trope? I just wanted a bit more. The spice and plot are entertaining, the character depth and chemistry just not quite, at least for ME.
That said, it's a fast paced read and still entertaining. And Lilith's spice ALWAYS slaps here. The dirty talking and sexy times were are worth the read alone. It's perhaps unfair to keep seeing the combination of taboo-spice-dark edge AND emotional substance/authentic connection I loved so much about Brutal Intentions...but when all the pieces come together Lilith is magic, and this one just didn't quite live up to what I expected/desired, even if it's some good insta-love, slow burning taboo spicy fun.
On the surface this book was set up to deliver all my favorites tropes AND all paired with a unique premise...basically everything I love about Lilith Vincent. Larger age gap, innocent heroine, manipulated and over the top possessive leading mean, breeding kink, and ex's DAD. YUM. Truly this should be been a slam dunk for me. Brutal Intentions is one of my all time favorites, so I expected this to be a similar vibe. So, I'm sad that it didn't quite deliver.

The audio was also fantastically performed in duet by Bryant Walker and Daphne Fields. I wasn't familiar with either of them, but really enjoyed their performance. Bryant has a bit of a softer tone, but I think it worked for the character's obsession and caretaking. And Daphne has a good naivete to her tone that fit our heroine. Vocal chemistry was solid.

The story itself was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed this one from Lilith Vincent and it may even be my favorite book by her so far. I loved how both Elena and Cullen helped each other heal from their pasts, allowing them to grow and move forward together.
And the spice? Absolutely chef’s kiss! It was the perfect addition to an already amazing story.
spicy age gap, yes please!
