Dawn Dais is a bestselling freelance writer and designer who has built a career out of poking fun at the newbie experience. Whether tackling pregnancy, parenting, running, or pickleball, she has been there, stumbled through it, and somehow survived to tell the tale, usually with a healthy dose of sarcasm. Her books, including The Sh!t No One Tells You parenting series and The Nonrunner’s Marathon Guide for Women, topped bestseller lists and were featured by numerous television and print media outlets. Her latest book, The Pickleball Handbook: An Unofficial Field Guide for Picklers Who Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop, and Probably Just Pulled a Muscle, brings that same irreverent honesty to America’s fastest-growing sport. Equal parts field guide, survival manual, and love letter to pickleball culture, the book celebrates the personalities, gear, rituals, and glorious bad decisions made on the court. Dawn’s pickleball journey began, as many great legends do, in the trash. While out on a neighborhood walk, she spotted a box of discarded items on the sidewalk. Sticking out of the box was a paddle boldly stamped The Best Paddle. She picked it up and, with it, her destiny. She later learned the paddle brand had been co-founded by Jamie Foxx, a detail that makes very little sense and yet cannot be denied. Dawn’s most recent narrative work, The Sh!t No One Tells You About Divorce, chronicles her bumpy, absurd, and unexpectedly enlightening journey through the unraveling of a life and the rebuilding that followed. She has also authored several gift books, including 102 Things to Do Before You Are Due and It All Goes by So Fast (Except Maybe This Part). Dawn lives in Roseville, California, with her blended family of six humans, four cats, and the occasional racoon who figures out the cat door.
