Jack Parlett is a writer, poet, academic and author of Fire Island: A Queer History (2022), which was named a New York Times Notable Book and one of the Best Books of the Year in the New Yorker. He completed a PhD on cruising and poetry at Cambridge University, where he now teaches English, and published this project as a monograph, The Poetics of Cruising: Queer Visual Culture from Whitman to Grindr (2022). He has held fellowships and residencies at Oxford University and Harvard University. His publications as a poet include the pamphlet Same Blue, Different You (2020), and his writing has appeared in the New Yorker, Boston Review, Literary Hub and Document Journal. He lives in East London. His latest book, Flamboyance: The Art of Burning Brightly, is out now.
