Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Rothman graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou) with a degree in political science. He worked on-staff as a reporter, editor, and photographer for weekly and daily newspapers and owned a PR, writing, and photography company in St. Louis. He won an "Award of Excellence" from APEX in 1993 for a series of newsletters he designed, wrote, and published for Missouri Goodwill Industries. Rothman wrote a chapter in the second edition of Dr. Temple Grandin's Different...Not Less. He lives in Phoenix, Arizona.
