Jill Suttie is a freelance science journalist and a staff writer and contributing editor for Greater Good magazine, a publication of the University of California, Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center. She writes extensively about the science of prosocial emotions and behavior, covering the many ways that mindfulness, awe, altruism, cooperation, humility, purpose, empathy, meaning in life, and more can improve our mental health and our relationships, helping us to thrive. Her special interests include research on the effects of racial bias, technology, nature, music, and social policy on individuals and society at large. Her work has appeared in several publications, including the Washington Post, Yes! Magazine, Mindful, and more, and she has been a featured speaker on podcasts. She received her doctorate of psychology from the University of San Francisco in 1998 and was a psychologist in private practice prior to becoming a writer. She is also a musician with her own CD's of original songs.
