Thomas Lopez is an inventor, industrial designer, and Arizona native defined by innovation. Since founding his firm in 2005, he has been a leading force in large-scale water infrastructure, securing over 20 U.S. patents—an engineering background that informs his creative house, HOOTLUM. Serving as both a collectible art toy brand and a publishing imprint, it is where he delivers cinematic storytelling and high-fidelity design. His connection to Arizona’s "Gritty Heritage" is hands-on. Thomas spent four years restoring a 1914 UVX miner’s home in the historic mining town of Jerome. Inspired by the wildlife of Cleopatra Hill, he created Rusty the Ringtail, marking a milestone as the first children’s book about Jerome, Arizona, and the first to feature the state’s official mammal in a historical context. Rusty is currently in contention for the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards, IPPY (Independent Publisher Book Awards), Next Generation Indie Book Awards, Purple Dragonfly Book Awards, Readers’ Favorite International, National Indie Excellence Awards.
