"The perfect binge listen." — Yahoo Lifestyle

Instant #1 New York Times bestseller.

The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....

More praise for The Silent Patient:

“Absolutely brilliant… I read it in a state of intense, breathless excitement.” — Stephen Fry

“Smart, sophisticated storytelling freighted with real suspense - a very fine novel by any standard.” — Lee Child

The Silent Patient sneaks up on you like a slash of intimidating shadow on a badly lit street. Michaelides has crafted a totally original, spellbinding psychological mystery so quirky, so unique that it should have its own genre.” — David Baldacci

This recently released debut novel by Alex Michaelides has been called a psychological thriller, but I think the more appropriate term would be a psychological suspense, and a fantastic one at that. The reader is not anxiously awaiting another attack from an unknown villain, but rather sits in page-turning anticipation of understanding the ‘why’ of a known killer. Since the murder takes place in the very beginning of the book and we are pretty sure (with occasional moments of doubt) that we know who the murderer is, the brilliance is how the author takes us through numerous twists and turns as we follow the mystery of why and how this event occurred.

The writing is tight, the characters engrossing in a macabre sense, and the darkness so well orchestrated that the reader is left with the sense that one can really never know oneself, let alone someone else…or what we/they are capable of. Bravo. Great debut novel.

Suspense at its best!

As someone who has been reading the mystery genre for over 60 years and was a former book buyer who read ARCs voraciously this is one of the finest mystery thrillers I have ever read. Simply stunning-the kind that leaves you speechless.

No superlatives can describe how exceptional this book is

Great narration, interesting characters. The recipe for an exceptional thriller is here . I read a lot of thrillers and mysteries. I'm not exaggerating when I say this was on another level. I believe the bar has been raised for thriller authors. Wonderfully written as the words just flow... The characters pop off the page abd make you care. I'm not a great review writer but trust me I do know fine writing when I stumble upon it. If you're expecting action, that's not the way of a psychological thriller. It is just that... You won't be disappointed if that's your genre.

Brilliant writing ..

I did like the book and the twist was....Wow I did not see it coming. I guess I just hated the ending. I hate when a book stops and does not finish the story. I literally felt like there should have been another chapter, or at least some type of conclusion.

I loved it...kinda

This book was never dull. It was a great, interesting story and although I feel, even with good books in this genre, that I have the ending figured out before I get there, I definitely didn't this time.

LOVED IT!!!
