Lee Child says it’s “stunning… certain to be a book of the year.”

Kathy Reichs calls it “extraordinary… a major achievement.”

Gillian Flynn says of Karin Slaughter: “I’d follow her anywhere.”

Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.

More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.

The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.

Powerful, poignant, and utterly gripping, packed with indelible characters and unforgettable twists, Pretty Girls is a masterful novel from one of the finest writers working today.

Not what I am used to from Karin Slaughter. While I understand the intent of the story, the gory details were too much for me

Too violent for me

The narrator was very good and the Plot moved along. The only criticism is that this author needs to develop other storylines that don’t always involve sisters where one of them is missing.

The pacing in the book was excellent

I am saying right away, this is a GREAT story. however, some parts of the story are hard to listen to. I guessed some part but there was still surprises. honestly, some parts are pretty messed up but once you get through those its a great read

The story was ok. Good plot twists kept me interested to see how it would turn out, but it was just too drawn out. It felt like a 120-minute movie that really could have been 90 minutes.

The performance was good, except for the narrator’s over-emphasis on the ‘H’ sound in every word with “WH” in it - wHat, wHite, overwHelmed. It was distracting.

Overall, I’m not feeling excited about additional titles from this author. But this book was recommended to me by a friend with a similar style to mine, so I might try one more book just to give it another chance.

Just ok.

Pretty Girls was intense, disturbing, and completely gripping. The pacing is relentless, the stakes keep escalating, and the darkness never feels gratuitous — it feels horrifying because it’s believable. This story doesn’t flinch from the worst parts of human cruelty, and that realism is what makes it so scary and effective. It’s a tough listen at times, but an excellent one, and I couldn’t stop once it had its hooks in me.

Relentless and Terrifyingly Real
