This book is extremely relatable to those of us readers who are parents of teenagers, specifically 17 year olds who dislike family vacations unless it’s at a 5 star resort on the beach and has a glistening pool with food & beverage service…why should they suffer? 🙄😉

So this story begins with one of the FMC Courtney at a cottage in the woods of Wisconsin. They are there for two weeks with her brother, his wife and their three children ages 17, 14, and 10. She and her husband Elliott have a 10 year old daughter who is best friends with her cousin. They have a sleepover at Courtney and Elliotts cottage. In the morning little Maye runs to her parents cottage up the hill only to run back horrified and crying. Courtney is so confused what’s happening and then she goes to the cottage of her brother Nolan and Emily only to discover a horrific scene and that’s where the story begins.

The other FMC is Reese who is the 17 yo niece of Courtney & daughter of Nolan and Emily. Her POV takes place in the events leading up to the horrible thing that happened. She is a very typical teen. She has insecurities, anxiety, older sibling issues and friendship problems back home. This girl can’t seem to catch a break until she meets a boy who she is immediately smitten with and he happens to work at the resort.

This story has a lot of characters in it each having their own purpose for the story. I must admit that I had the perpetrator pegged to be three different suspects but alas it clicked who it was all along after the tweens play a prank on their eldest cousin. Truly enjoyed this story. It’s a winner. Just one thing for the author: it’s not “unhoused person” it’s Homeless person. Need to stop with the woke language just to appease a few weirdos. That was my only complaint.

It was never her….

I don't understand why everyone is so inept. you're married to someone, as close as ever, each other's rock, never had a problem but all of a sudden you just don't communicate anymore and don't trust each other? also, what 10 year old doesn't know how to work an iPad? this mom is sooo dumb.

the internal monologue of Courtney was so admiring annoying. you just found some people murdered? let's think about all our past fun beautiful experiences and the world around you and let's take 20 minutes to talk about how your life might be different now.... instead of being like, 'wtf someone was murdered, let's get out of here and call the cops". wild. I really struggled with the narrators as well. idk why I'm even giving this 3 stars. why does it have such high ratings??

why is every character so terrible?

Satisfying ending without being outrageous, I found this the best way to give it five stars!
