Some doors are better left closed . . .
Darkly profound and utterly chilling, Apartment 16 is a work of compulsive psychological horror from the award-winning author of The Ritual, Adam Nevill.
‘Fast becoming Britain's answer to Stephen King’ – The Guardian
In Barrington House, an upmarket block in London, there is an empty apartment. No one goes in, no one comes out. And it has been that way for fifty years. Until the night watchman hears a disturbance after midnight and investigates. What he experiences is enough to change his life for ever.
A young American woman, Apryl, arrives at Barrington House. She’s been left an apartment by her mysterious Great Aunt Lillian, who died in strange circumstances. Rumours claim Lillian was mad. But her diary suggests she was implicated in a horrific and inexplicable event decades ago.
Determined to learn something of this eccentric woman, Apryl begins to unravel the hidden story of Barrington House. She discovers that a transforming, evil force still inhabits the building. And the doorway to Apartment 16 is a gateway to something altogether more terrifying . . .

The prose is beautifully written and it’s not a hard listen it just feels disjointed and the whole “friends of” chapter really could have been an email.lol (She could have told Miles about it afterwards.)
I sort of thought we’d get a follow up on Apryl in the epilogue, but no, just more Seth which only served to me, to make it feel incomplete. I’m disappointed.
I don’t like the dual narrators. It is distracting

Not what you expect, but entertaining

The NARRATOR THOUGH! The male narrator was completely fine and frankly the female one was too when she wasn't doing an accent. The character was supposed to be from the upper east coast (Jersey) and the terrible "American" accent was all over the place. It went from New York to suddenly being upper-Midwestern and then it would fall into a California 80s "valley girl" mess. (all done in a high-pitched nasal voice mind you) It made me HATE the character. I don't think that would have happened if I'd read a physical copy. I'm blown away that THIS was the voice they chose to go with.
I wish I could go back and just read this.
Read a physical copy if possible...please!
