When winter's done, but spring has not yet fully sprung, much of Alaska turns to slush. Locally, it's called "breakup," and it's a…messy time of year. It's certainly messy for Kate Shugak; between doing her taxes, being chased by grizzlies, and getting shot at by feuding families, she has to cope with an NTSB investigation that hits very close to home. Then, of course, there's the body in the woods. And up at the old mining town. And…being Kate Shugak, somehow she can't leave well enough alone, and begins to tease apart a well-planned and surprising crime.

The story was great. Humorous yet dangerous events happen one after another. Events propel Late. To solve a murder. Very amusing slapstick events make this a good one.

Great story

I love these books and I think that so far this has been the best of them. Really enjoyed this one. Love Kate and the cast of characters that are her friends and family.

Marguerite Gavin does a wonderful job with the narration as always. I wish the next two would hurry up and get done on audio. Sure I could read them but for these it just wouldn't be enough.

Really good. Best one yet.

Alaska's Spring thaw was the backdrop for the story, provided the intriguing title and supplied a a large dose of comedic relief. Kate Is still the stubborn, strong, loyal protagonist who prides herself on her heritage, education, friendships and steadfastness. I was extremely disappointed in her portrayal in the last book when she strayed far, far over the bounds of honesty by becoming a stalker, identity thief and burglar. Thankfully she is back to her old self.

Bobby is also back -- and I love him. My favorite character my just be Alaska. The descriptions of Alaska keep getting better and it has truly become its own character, which I also love.

I am looking forward to #8.

I loved Breakup.

What made the experience of listening to Breakup the most enjoyable?

Kate, who stands tall where others might shy away and let things slide.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Again, Kate, a person to aspire to.

Which scene was your favorite?

The burning. Because it illustrates what happens when people stop thinking for themselves.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was angry in the knowledge that this kind of situation exists today and that biggots and bullies will force their will on others. And although the end is realistic I wished for a different solution.

Any additional comments?

Will keep buying this series, the stories are great and the narrator very good.

Frustrating but good
