North, South… and a Star.

A six-year war rages in Chicago.

Death is postponed by a debt of gratitude.

Envy encourages the unthinkable.

Hate destroys lives.

Love complicates relationships.

Two enemies wish for the same thing—to take what the other one holds dear. Amid all the chaos—Layla, the perfect bargaining chip for both sides to manipulate.

Divided between two bosses, blinded by her own unfulfilled needs, she ignores the risks and makes an irrevocably dangerous decision. When the enemy becomes an ally, and an ally becomes an enemy, Layla’s loyalty starts to lose her battle with reason.

Layla finds love where it shouldn’t be. Safety where only danger lies, and happiness in the darkest of places, but in the world of Mafia; rules don’t apply. Inhibitions don’t exist.

Betrayal hangs in the air, and Layla must decipher the havoc of her past and present to find a way to stay alive.

Just when I thought I had it figured out, BOOM... another surprise. Twist after twist. I wasted no time getting to book 2.

I really did not see the betrayals. I love the relationship between the couple. Such a good book.

Betrayed

This is the first part of a duet. Dante and Layla "Star" fall fast and hard for each other. But coming from a rival mafia family has its challenges. Immediately starting part 2 since this ends in a cliffhanger.

Dual narration.

The female main character in this book was so annoying the entire book. She whiny and bratty she acted like a teenage girl. It was no depth in this book. Nothing to keep her hold your attention. I struggled with trying to even manage to get through it.

Boring no depth

There were parts of the story that were interesting but nothing was really new. The scenes where Dante remembers Layla as a child when he was a teen was random unnecessary. The age gap is kinda creepy since she’s just turning 19 and so much worse that she followed him around as a child. The narrators did well with bad material.
