“Sticks and stones will break your bones, if you make me hurt you.”

Some truths are better left buried, but Jace Walker is determined to unearth the skeletons in her family’s closet. Leverage is all she needs to keep her brother alive, and she’s willing to risk everything to save him.

Even her life. But is she willing to risk the lives of her friends?

Holly and Jordan take on the case, but what should be a simple investigation takes a deadly turn when they stumble onto a murder. Family secrets are the least of their concerns as their path intertwines with a killer intent on remaining hidden.

He doesn’t want to be found. He doesn’t want to be known. And anyone who threatens his anonymity dies.

Reading CC Warrens’ Holly series is always a treat. The mysteries continue, and favorite of all, we get to learn more about the characters we love (or not). My favorite thing is that the characters are complex and feel real. Learning more about Holly’s best friend’s family was great. The only thing that felt under developed was Holly and Jordan’s relationship— there were scenes where I thought we could have had a chance to hear Holly (internally) or both of them “process their new relationship” status but things were cut short . Also I missed Holly’s nightly gratitude journal entries which allow us to hear how she is processing things (eg maybe her relationship with Jordan). And there were things I thought would’ve triggered Holly (sound of door bolting etc) but she didn’t even flinch. Perhaps it’s her growth but if she at least acknowledged that it would have felt more deliberate vs. a forgotten detail. Overall, an enjoyable, clean suspense and mystery read. Am looking forward to next book.

6 books in, still an enjoyable, character rich story!
