A Warhammer 40,000 Audiobook

A Catachan Jungle Fighters unit sent to the death world of Rogar III feels right at home… right down to the ork invaders and the mysterious threats from deep within the jungles.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

There are few regiments more iconic than the Catachan Jungle Fighters, and seeing them in action on a world almost as deadly as Catachan (but not quite, of course) is a treat indeed.

THE STORY

The Catachan Jungle Fighters of the Astra Militarum are an elite regiment that specialises in destroying the Emperor's foes on the most dangerous worlds of the Imperium. Their training is really put to the test when a squad is sent to the death world of Rogar III in response to an ork incursion. But as well as dealing with the xenos threat, they must do battle with the planet itself, and the mysterious figures that stalk them across the deadly terrain. It's an action-packed tale of survival in the grim, dark, far future!

Written by Steve Lyons. Narrated by Andrew James Spooner. Runtime is 7 hours and 44 minutes approx.

There are no reviews yet, so I figured I'd write one and help out. The action is very good, as I expect from Lyons, and it is a better and more interesting depiction of Catachans than any of the other books I remember seeing them in (Catachan Devil, Pandorax, Leontus: Lord Solar, and that short story in Damocles). It is also a generally better book than all of those. All of the characters are easily distinguishable from each other yet distinctly Catachan. Everything I had read by Lyons before was focused on the Death Korps, but I think he nailed the Catachan feel and vibe. The characters and plot are also a lot more interesting than some other guard novels like Longshot and 13th Legion, and it is much more enjoyable than Fire Caste by Fehervari, which left me not wanting to read any more of his books. It is not as good, though, as the Gaunt books or their spin-offs, the Cain books, Haley's two tank books, or ADB's Cadian Blood. Compared to Lyon's other books on audible I've listened to, I would say it's not as good as Dead Men Walking, better than Siege of Vraks, and about the same as Krieg, and I would say it is about the same quality as the Imperial Guard stuff in Rath's The Fall of Cadia. To compare with two Imperial Guard books not on audible, I think Ice Guard (also by Lyons) and Desert Raiders (by Soulban) are slightly better.

Overall, I'd recommend it if you are somehow a Catachan fan who has not read it yet or if you want a decently interesting story with good characters and action.

Also, Andrew James Spooner does a great job, as he always does.

Good for Catachans, decent overall

Amazing book and voice actor. I wish there was a sequel to this. I never appreciated the devils and what a death world was until this. Amazing book with more heart than you imagine from a gaurd novel

the devils are my new favorite gaurd unit. Sly Marbo is Rambo of 40k!

Didn’t enjoy the book. Others might have, but just didn’t find it exciting enough. Not a good “hook”.

Voice acting and story are meh
