What feminine part of yourself did you have to destroy in order to survive in this world? At what point does femininity become synonymous with apology? Who hurt the people who hurt you? Alok challenges themself and us to figure it out in this immersive new performance utilizing the latest spatial audio technology, enhancing their words with sound art.

Femme in Public (2017) is the debut poetry collection by transfeminine writer Alok Vaid-Menon including work from 2014-2017. It is a meditation on anti-trans harassment, a ceremony for loss and grief, and an imagining of what could be if we weren’t taught to fear the very things that have the potential to set us free.

I have no words. Alok already used them all perfectly. A couple poems I recognized from their new special Biology, but hearing them all together was absolutely heart wrenching. will recommend to anyone who will listen.

I love Alok’s poetry. Their experience is personal, but the lessons are universal. The performance of this poetry adds to my understanding.

Again... A wonderful collection. Deeply emotional, very relatable. Each poem made me stop and think.. And feel, deeply.

There are not enough snaps or laughs or "oof"s to accurately describe how much I love this book of poetry. Everytime I listen, something new strikes my heart.

Gorgeous, painful, healing love
