A Gripping Psychological Thriller About a Missing Child and Buried Secrets
A daughter lost. A truth far darker.
Ten years ago, Rose vanished. Today, her mother swears she’s come home.
After a fire destroys the house where her toddler daughter disappeared, Julia and her family move into a creaking Victorian across town. To everyone else, it’s a fresh start. To Julia, it’s a sign.
Then—snow on the ground. Footprints leading to her front door. A glimpse of movement in the neighbor’s basement. And a name whispered into the winter air: Rose.
Her husband says she’s unraveling. Her children are embarrassed. The neighbors call her dangerous. But Julia knows what she saw. And she’ll risk her marriage, her sanity, and her freedom to prove that Rose is still alive.
Until the night the truth finally comes out—and it’s worse than anything she imagined.
Forgotten is a haunting psychological thriller about obsession, buried secrets, and the price of refusing to let go.

However, the listening experience was a bit of a struggle for me. While the plot is strong, I found it difficult to visualize the characters and stay grounded in the story at times. The narrator, Sarah Kuklis, lacked the action and urgency the story demanded, and the flat delivery made it hard to connect with the intensity of the writing. Despite a rushed beginning and an ending that felt slightly underdeveloped in terms of resolution, the emotional weight of this story is heavy and memorable. I am still feeling emotionally confused by the conclusion, which is a testament to how haunting the plot truly is. This is a must-listen for those who enjoy character-focused mysteries, provided you can look past the vocal performance.
Content Warning: This story contains themes of intense grief, psychological trauma, and depictions of mental instability.

How much heartbreak can a family endure? Specifically, how much can a mother take before others look at her differently?
Julia and Michael lose their eldest daughter Rose just after the birth of their twins Emily and Jack who are residents in the NICU at the time. The kidnapping of Rose left too many unanswered questions and an unsolved case.
Struggling with all the emotional overload of never finding her daughter, and arriving home ten years later to their house on fire sets Julia into an even deeper tail spin.
Moving into a new neighborhood not too far from their original home shouldn't add too much added pressure to the mental anguish they all are experiencing, but it only intensifies Julia's fragile grasp on reality.
Their new home and neighbors are about to ratchet up life to a whole new level.
Maddie the daughter of Susan and Richard presents Julia a hand drawn picture that triggers Julia down a path even darker than the one she's already on.
I never expected the storyline to unfold and conclude in the way it did. Did the author intentionally choose the name Jack for Julia and Michael's son as homage to Stephen King's character in the Shining, because this book certainly ranks up there with the chilling psychological thriller. FYI Emily and Jack are most normal characters outside of the detective.
Sarah Kuklis does an excellent job differentiating characters as the sole narrator. She engages you in and keeps you hooked.
