As assistant medical examiner, Lance is used to seeing strange things, but when he suddenly starts seeing ghosts, he worries he's losing his mind.

Angus grew up around the strange. With his mother able to see and speak to ghosts, he's grown up knowing there are things most people can't see or understand. When he accidentally catches Lance arguing with a ghost, he knows he has to step in before the man thinks he's going crazy.

As Lance adjusts to his new ability, he also realizes seeing ghosts has its advantages. When several women are murdered in the area, it's up to Lance and Angus to work with the ghosts of the victims to catch the killer.

This was hard for me the rate, it's been sitting in my wish list for a long time.
I had started another series with the same MO, an ME and a Detective both with the ME suddenly seeing ghosts and I wasn't sure if I wanted to do another one.

Overall, this was OK, story. The who-done-it was was good and even though I figured out who, but not a exact one. My biggest issue with the book was the overall religious undertone I got through out the story. I'm not a fan of having anyone's believe told to me, repeatedly.
The slow burn between the two MC was good, and the happy band of ghostly characters they picked up along the way was engaging.
I'm glad I finally got it off my wish list, but I doubt I'll do another one.
The narration was fine, and kept the story flowing.

Pleasant

Pros:
1) People dealing sensibly, like adults, with challenges and surprises. Practicing effective communication. No one acts unrealistically stupid for the sake of the plot. That was a breath of fresh air, for real.
2) Narration is good.

Meh:
1) Weirdly religious?
2) The use of sexual violence against women as a backdrop for the romance.

Decent. Not outstanding, not awful.

This was a new to me author and narrator. The book was interesting and the characters likable. The narrator was able to give everyone their own distinct voice. It’s slow burn and there’s some dialogue indicating there will be more in the coming books.

Excellent!

I enjoyed this book a lot, I’ll admit the narrator took a bit of getting used to because he wasn’t very inflective in his speech. I even had to look up to make sure he wasn’t an AI narrator. But, maybe a book with sensitive topics like this needed someone a little more detached sounding. The overall story was great and I’ll be getting the second one for sure!

Excellent writing and storytelling

I am not sure I agree with the authors vision in regards to Ghosts and the afterlife.. but it doesn't take away tobmuch from the overall story

I enjoyed the plot and storyline
