I've read quite a few of Nikki's books, I started w/her football series, which is where we first meet our FMC, Eva. Nikki putting Eva in her hockey romance series, my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE sub genre of sports romances, is the icing on the cake!! Eva has been in several stories so far, and she is always in control of herself, but she cares about her friends and is kind to everyone. I love that in this book, we get to see a completely different side of her. Eva’s parents are the worse, and we learn she wants to keep the peace, get through college, and then be done with it all. Sadly, her opinions are treated like they don’t matter, and reading the things her dad puts her through, expects of her, like she’s a puppet, makes you feel really bad for her. BUT, we get Gavin as our MMC 🥵😍 he thinks he knows who Eva is, but he quickly realizes he is very wrong! I loved Eva and Gavin’s back and forth banter, getting to know the other 3 roommates, which each will have their own book. I believe Cole is up next, and he’s going to be a fun one to read 🤭 it’s not long before they both are starting to let the other in more, being a little more vulnerable and caring about each other. Both our FMC and MMC tried to fight it, but in the end, they were meant to be together. One of my favorite quotes from Eva is, “He felt like coming home, like I belonged here with him”. 💗 I have to mention the chemistry between these two 🥵🔥 the tension and chemistry was there from the very beginning, Gavin’s inner dialogue was 🔥🔥 the spice was spicing 🌶️🌶️🌶️ I love some good spice, I could have used a little bit more thrown in there, but the spice we did get 💋🥵🔥 lastly, you can’t forget about Henry, Eva’s duck. 🦆 we have Henry to thank for Eva needing a new place to stay and thanks to Henry, Eva became a roommate w/ 4 hockey players and falling in love w/ one of them. Nothings cuter than reading about 4 hockey players who dote on a 🦆. They help babysit, argue over who Henry sleeps with, and each has a special thing they do w/ Henry, and Henry has a special quack for each guy ❤️ if you haven’t read Ice Cold Player, you’re missing out on the beginning of a FANTASTIC hockey series, by, Nikki Hall

Plot needed reworking. MC holds a grudge for a long time over nothing, and the actors reading it are too monotone. Not enough emotions, otherwise it’s ok.

Ava and Gavin have been dancing around each other for a few books, starting in the previous, Wildcard football series (so it doea help to have read those books). They have chemistry, but they both have secrets. Ava tends to assume the worst of Gavin despite the fact that he is a cinnamon roll. Close proximity helps draw them together, he falls first, and he won't let her push him away.

While I was frustrated with Ava at times, I couldn't help but love Gavin and how he was there for Ava when she really needed him, putting her first. I did have a smile on my face for much of the book because of how great Gavin was.

The narration is well done. An enjoyable listen.
