"You are one of the few who can lead the dragons and the Forsaken. Maybe even the last."

When James Matson hears these words from a trapped dragon, everything changes. He knew his power was different: the white flame that lets him devour souls, the regeneration that makes him nearly immortal, and the aura that terrifies cultivators. But he never imagined it meant he wasn't human.

Months after the Running River Sect shattered his core and left him for dead, James now leads a family of soul-cultivators against them. And they've become something the sects never anticipated, a pack of hunters the cultivation world can't control.

But the wastelands hold dangers beyond sect politics. An ancient city traps them alongside the dragon mother and spider hordes. An enemy creates armies of Forsaken from kidnapped children. And somewhere in James's forgotten past lies the answer to why his soul is inscribed with his true name, and why his real mother prepared him for this life before he was born.

The man who refused to die is about to discover he was never meant to be a man at all.

The very sharp turn the relationship dynamics took in this book were not for me. I did not like anything about the turn the MC took after the breakup nor was I cool with the actions of the new love interest at the brothels. I’ll be dropping the series here most likely.
