Something magical happens every time Miss Elizabeth Bennet paints or sketches an image. However, she cannot control how her talent is revealed in her art. Lizzy is determined to live as an independent lady and needs her talent to provide the income for her dream. But, she has to be so very, very careful that no one discovers her secret. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy wants Miss Bennet, a notable artiste, to paint a portrait of his beloved sister, Georgiana, and he is willing to pay handsomely. She, however, refuses to paint adults. He does not understand her reluctance. Darcy is determined to discover whatever it is that Miss Bennet is hiding.

I read this book years ago and have the physical book too. Then the audiobook came out and had to get it. It was wonderful narrated by Benjamin Fife.

In this variation, both Mr. and Mrs. Bennet have passed away in a carriage accident. Jane and Bingley are married and Elizabeth lives with them. Darcy and Binley have never met. Elizabeth is a talented artist, but little quirky surprising things happen in her paintings so she’s very specific on who her art is shared with.

Overall, this was an absolutely fun story. There were a few editing errors that could easily be overlooked. One of the things that would have been absolutely enjoyable, especially in the printed book is if there was some of the sketches that would be included in the pages, specifically the chipmunk.

I can see myself, especially listening to the audiobook again in the future.

Settle in and get comfortable, as the story unfolds like a rose's petals in the morning sun and collapses again in the evening, repeating again and again. The deliberate pace allows the listener to be fully engulfed in the pleasure of Benjamin Fife's voices and narrations as the characters observe, engage, explore, and ponder the fascinating abilities that Lizzy can perform. Set among horse drawn carriages and sprawling estates, descriptions of the landscapes and clothing offer constant reminders of the time period, feeling like a journey to a familiar past in your mind's eye. Intrigue abounds, but don't expect much physical action. [Disclosure: I received this title for free and listened at 2.3x.]
