Lord Peter Wimsey—Novels 1-3

By Dorothy L. Sayers

Narrated by Graham Scott

The first three mysteries for Dorothy L. Sayers' aristocratic sleuth: first, a body is discovered in a Battersea bathroom, wearing nothing but a pair of pince-nez, on the same night that financier Sir Reuben Levy disappears from his Park Lane home. Then, Wimsey returns to England when his brother, the Duke of Denver, is accused of murdering the fiance of their sister, Lady Mary, and a trial in the House of Lords looms; and finally, an overheard conversation in a restaurant begins an investigation of the strangely premature death of wealthy and terminally ill old lady Miss Agatha Dawson—an inquiry which soon places everyone, including Lord Peter himself, in peril...

Loved the skill of the reader to create the perfect voices. Loved all the new words I learned.

Has great narrator and always good complicated stories with nice character development. Actually cared about the characters.

I do so enjoy the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries. DLS was a genius and her characters are always very fleshed out with their own quirky personalities.

The performance is harder to rate. Because there are 3 books in the listen one grows used to the narrator as the hours go by it’s hard to know whether he gets better or the things you didn’t like at the beginning are less noticeable with familiarity.

I did make a mental note to myself during the first story that I always thought of Wimsey as more animated than what I was hearing in the performance. It’s not a bad voice but it’s lacking something that my physical ears expected to hear based on the way I heard the voices in the ears of my mind when I read the book.

Great stories, okay performance.
