She was a nun of noble birth. He was a heretic, a reformer, and an outlaw of the Holy Roman Empire.

In the 16th century, nun Katharina von Bora's fate fell no further than the Abbey. Until she read the writings of Martin Luther. His sweeping Catholic church reformation - condemning a cloistered life and promoting the goodness of marriage - awakened her desire for everything she'd been forbidden. Including Martin Luther himself.

Despite the fact that the attraction and tension between them is undeniable, Luther holds fast to his convictions and remains isolated, refusing to risk anyone's life but his own. And Katharina longs for love, but is strong-willed. She clings proudly to her class distinction, pining for nobility over the heart of a reformer. They couldn't be more different.

But as the world comes tumbling down around them, and with Luther's threatened life a constant strain, these unlikely allies forge an unexpected bond of understanding, support, and love. Together, they will alter the religious landscape forever.

This is a romance but also history. It touches on some terrible things but the main story is beautiful. Much more passion than I would think of for these historical figures but no smut. The narrator reads well but FAR too slow. Since she was consistent I was able to speed up the audio and it was fine. Worth a listen for anyone interested in church history.

I loved this book!

I love Jody Hedlund, but I've been a little hesitant to listen to this book because I felt like how could you make a passionate, love story about Martin Luther. Let me tell you Jody did it! It was a phenomenal love story! It was also exciting. Just a great overall story. And I loved learning more about Martin Luther!

Great Story

This story was most enjoyable! I did need to speed up the narration to 1.5x, but afterwards just set back as the author pulled me through an emotional and compelling introduction to life during the reformation. Finished the book in a day wanting to read more from this author. Also appreciated the narrator’s pronunciation and accent.

Well-paced and wonderful!

It might have been good but I was so distracted by the narrator I can’t really tell you

I could hardly listen because of the breathy way the narrator read it.
