Zorian Kazinski has all the time in the world to get stronger, and he plans on taking full advantage of it.

A teenage mage of humble birth and slightly above-average skill, Zorian is attending his third year of education at Cyoria's magical academy. A driven and quiet young man, he is consumed by a desire to ensure his own future and free himself of the influence of his family, resenting the Kazinskis for favoring his brothers over him. Consequently, Zorian has no time for pointless distractions, much less other people's problems.

As it happens, though, time is something he is about to get plenty of.

On the eve of Cyoria's annual summer festival, Zorian is murdered, then abruptly brought back to the beginning of the month, just before he was about to take the train to school. Finding himself trapped in a time loop with no clear end or exit, he will have to look both within and without to unravel the mystery set before him. He does have to unravel it, too, because the loop clearly wasn’t made for his sake, and in a world of magic even a time traveler isn't safe from those who wish him ill.

Fortunately for Zorian, repetition is the mother of learning….

Think the headline is pretty apt. Main character goes through one of the best character arcs I've experienced.

Groundhog day meets Harry Potter

In my experience, it’s not easy to find a time-loop novel that doesn’t end up getting monotonous and frustrating. While this book didn’t completely avoid that pitfall, it did manage to keep the plot moving forward enough to keep me engaged most of the time. However this wasn’t what made this audiobook surprisingly enjoyable...

What was so surprising was that Jack Vorchachi didn’t completely ruin this audiobook. Every other performance of his that I’ve listened to has eventually led to me returning the audiobook. Normally he sounds like a ham-fisted, melodramatic, movie-trailer narrator who treats every sentence like it is prefaced by the phrase, “In a world.”

Upon seeing who was narrating this audiobook I had intended to skip it. I have taken a pass on several other titles that I certainly would have bought had they not been narrated by Mr. Vorchachi. In the end, I bought this one because I had forgotten who was narrating it. It was an impulse buy, and I spent the credit before I remembered why I had initially decided not to put it in my cue.

His performance was so much better than it was in the past that I’m now thinking I might have to go back and see if this improvement is apparent on any of the other audiobooks that I have previously rejected.

In summation, this book was enjoyable and interesting, and I look forward to the next installment.

Surprisingly enjoyable.

the way this story handles the challenges of time looping and it applications to character growth are the best of any time loop story I have read/watched.

I first read it as a web serial in 2020 and it consumed my entire life for a week. I skipped classes, barely eat, didn't get out of bed, I was reading right until I fell asleep and would immediately start when I woke up. what I am trying to say is I love this story.

Not only is the time loop handled in an amazing way. But all the interesting different types and approaches to magic we explore completely changed my tastes for fantasy.

This is by far the best time loop story I know

I enjoyed the story but the maybe they should go with a different narrator. He's not that great at doing multiple voices and his capacity for accents is pretty small. anyone with a high pitched voice ended up sounding like a chain smoking 5 year old. He also doesn't really change his tone or pace for moments of action or danger, which really takes away from the moment.

Great Story, Not so great narrator

Jack sounded too whiny, it was really distracting and annoying. The bright side of this was that it forced me to read more of the story until I had my hands occupied, then I reverted back to the audio book

Enjoyed the story not the story teller
