Discover an empowering new way of understanding your multifaceted mind—and healing the many parts that make you who you are.

Is there just one “you”? We’ve been taught to believe we have a single identity, and to feel fear or shame when we can’t control the inner voices that don’t match the ideal of who we think we should be. Yet Dr. Richard Schwartz’s research now challenges this “mono-mind” theory. “All of us are born with many sub-minds—or parts,” says Dr. Schwartz. “These parts are not imaginary or symbolic. They are individuals who exist as an internal family within us—and the key to health and happiness is to honor, understand, and love every part.”

Dr. Schwartz’s Internal Family Systems (IFS) model has been transforming psychology for decades. With No Bad Parts, you’ll learn why IFS has been so effective in areas such as trauma recovery, addiction therapy, and depression treatment—and how this new understanding of consciousness has the potential to radically change our lives. Here you’ll explore:

• The IFS revolution—how honoring and communicating with our parts changes our approach to mental wellness
• Overturning the cultural, scientific, and spiritual assumptions that reinforce an outdated mono-mind model
• The ego, the inner critic, the saboteur—making these often-maligned parts into powerful allies
• Burdens—why our parts become distorted and stuck in childhood traumas and cultural beliefs
• How IFS demonstrates human goodness by revealing that there are no bad parts
• The Self—discover your wise, compassionate essence of goodness that is the source of healing and harmony
• Exercises for mapping your parts, accessing the Self, working with a challenging protector, identifying each part’s triggers, and more

IFS is a paradigm-changing model because it gives us a powerful approach for healing ourselves, our culture, and our planet. As Dr. Schwartz teaches, “Our parts can sometimes be disruptive or harmful, but once they’re unburdened, they return to their essential goodness. When we learn to love all our parts, we can learn to love all people—and that will contribute to healing the world.”

The information & tools presented here are powerful. For the most part, the narrator is great; but they got actors to dramatize the client case studies, and I found them -incredibly- cringeworthy. I don’t know that there’s any better way to present that content, but faked performances of deeply personal emotions was… not the way I’d have preferred to receive that content. It demonstrated the concepts well but left me physically grimacing. Guess that’s a trailhead for some work with my own parts - just thought I’d mention it to other listeners in case they experience similar. Despite that drawback, this was still one of the best audiobooks I’ve heard all year for sheer transformative potential of the content.

Superb content, but painful dramatizations

Hands down Dr. Dick Schwartz’s best IFS book so far. He personally leads the guided meditations and case demos, which is simply priceless.
Highly recommended!

Excellent!

The author is obviously an expert and exceptional exercises are available in the audiobook. You get a great overview of the theory and repeat meditations of exercises.

There are chapters basically soap boxing about politics, global warming, social inequalities. All cogent and valid thoughts, but not something I needed or wanted from an audiobook for therapy. You can easily skip these parts however.

Very helpful, bit too much politics

If you need the basics to Internal Family Systems (IFS), then this book is great. I think the political comments throughout were pointless and unprofessional, however. They had no helpful use to them. I didn’t pay for a book to learn more about IFS to just hear some political rhetoric no matter what side it may be on. We all have parts to work through and this showed a “Social Justice” part in certain parts of the book indeed. Overall, however, I am grateful for the read and further understanding I’ve gained.

Great But Could Be Better

The meditation exercises and IFS demo led by the author Richard Schwartz are the best parts of this audio book. So valuable, as if I attended a IFS course. The best audio book ever! Thank you Richard Schwartz for making this audio book happen!

Loved it!
