Instant USA Today bestseller.

When a reality show about former child stars overcoming addiction culminates in murder, their therapist must take a closer look into their lives—and her own, from USA Today bestselling author Lucinda Berry.

Dr. Laurel Harlow can’t believe she’s agreed to do a reality TV show. But her years as a chemical dependency counselor and personal history with the show’s director make her the obvious choice. Treating a mansion full of former child stars on the road to recovery is the tallest order of her career—especially when one of them turns up dead while the cameras are still rolling.

In a house full of narcissists vying for the spotlight, everyone’s hiding something…including Laurel. An investigation could expose a past she’d rather keep buried. But among the attention-starved patients, only one of them is a predator. And Laurel is skilled at spotting a predator when she sees one.

As she hunts a killer in her present, the unsettling truths of Laurel’s past are forced into the light. But this time, she’ll face her demons head on. She’ll stop at nothing to expose a murderer, even if it means risking everything she holds dear.

Critic reviews

One in Four by novelist Lucinda Berry is an extraordinary and fun read from start to finish for fans of psychological murder mysteries having to be solved by an amateur female sleuth. Original, fascinating, and unreservedly recommended.”—Midwest Book Review

I’m not a fan of this book. The premise is a good story but could have been explained so much better. The character that just pops up to explain goings on sealed the three for me. The back and forth between perspectives was more confusing than explaining of the story. If this book was expanded, I think I really would have liked it.

Confusing and not thought out

While considered a "quicker" read, this book contained so many twists that it felt so much longer and involved than the page length would indicate! Dr. Laurel is trying to make up for errors in her past by helping others heal from their crippling addictions. She agrees to be the main therapist on a reality show (similar to Celebrity Rehab for anyone who remembers that show??) to help a handful of current and former celebrities overcome their addictions over the course of 30 days. On day 28, something terrible happens to one of the celebrities and Dr. Laurel jumps into action to try to figure out what happened. She is also trying to protect the other celebrities that were in the house from falling too deep back into their addiction spiral. But quickly the investigation turns towards Dr. Laurel, and she has to find out what happened to the celebrity, who did it, and why parts of her past are trying to resurface. I both listened to the audio of this book and read it and thought both were great options. Great for a quick-ish, twisty read!

Twisty and turny!

I usually love Lucinda Berry books but for some reason, this one just didn’t do it for me! It was good, but nothing special in my opinion!

It was okay!

The beginning of the book grabbed me right away. The middle seemed to drag on. I was really hoping the end would make it all worth it but it was very disappointing. Could have had a much better ending.

Disappointing ending
