When a guy breaks your heart, he’s not supposed to move to your small town to win it back.
I hoped to never see Adrian Castillo again after he broke my heart.
Years later, he’s made it his mission to keep running into me.
He gets hired at the law firm where I work and steals my promotion.
I quit and start my own firm in my small town.
I didn’t expect him to follow me here.
I definitely didn’t expect him to join a rival town firm.
And now, we have a case against each other.
All the emotions I had for him resurface.
I’m afraid to give him my heart again.
But fate has other plans.

Lance and Lacy did a great job narrating Adrian and Essie's story. They didn't match the characters in my mind, but they did a decent job.
Poor Adrian had his work cut out for him in this story.
Everything seemed stacked against him; every move he made seemed to get in Essie's way to begin with.
You could feel the tension between the two of them throughout the book, and that was perfectly portrayed by Lacy and Lance.
Essie was a determined, sometimes stubborn character. I adored listening to the sibling banter between her and River, the family dynamics involving Rex and Carolina, as well as getting to know the friend group better. The back and forth between a few of the characters had me hoping for their stories soon.
Adrian was also a determined character; however, his focus was definitely on winning Essie back.
His willingness to open up to her about the past and explain his actions certainly wasn't easy, and he made a few mistakes on his journey to win Essie back, but boy, oh boy, did he give good grovel.
I liked the way we got flashbacks of their time together; it certainly helped clarify things.
The little surprise near the end was heartwarming, and I can't wait to read the next instalment in the series.
Happy to be back in Blue Beech
