Set ten years after Harry “Rabbit” Angstrom’s death, Rabbit Remembered returns readers to the small Pennsylvania town where Harry’s widow, Janice, and his son, Nelson, still reside. They are faced with a surprise when Annabelle, Harry’s 39-year-old illegitimate daughter, arrives on the scene, bringing with her ghosts from the past.©2009 John Updike; (P)2009 Random House Audio Fiction Psychological Sagas Literary Fiction Family Life Genre Fiction Short Story Anthologies & Short Stories

Listening to this was like being with longtime acquaintances, even friends, who I know well and care about, with all their courage, frailties, and ghosts. Updike is a master storyteller and captivator, as in the original trilogy.

A worthy conclusion to the Rabbit saga

I love the Rabbit series, and Updike is a great novelist, but this installment didn't quite tank with the originals in my mind.

Good But Not Great

His ability to create everyday characters and explore the ins and outs of daily life are on full display here.

Outstanding Updike

I spent the summer listening to all four Rabbit books (having read the first two when they first were published years ago). They are wonderful books and in a small way historical novels in that they make reference to real events. Updike has invented characters who do annoying and stupid (and sometimes awful) things, but who are not annoying to read about. I found myself very absorbed with the characters. My husband has been listening too and we find ourselves talking about what has happened to Rabbit and Janice (sort of like contemporary discussions about 24 at the water cooler in the office).
I don't know if the books would appeal to younger people. As a person who is about 10 years younger than Rabbit, I found it fun and interesting to follow his life.

I think Mr. Morey's reading is wonderful. He has created subtle voices for the characters and his reading brings the stories to life in a way that reading would not. Highly recommended.

Rabbit from Start to Finish

Flaccid story without Rabbitt's consciousness. Narration is frequently flat and uninspired. Wraps up loose ends.
