Some stories take more than one lifetime to tell. There are wrongs that echo through the ages, friendships that outpace the claws of death, loves that leave their mark on civilization, and promises that nothing can break. This is one such story. Annelid and Leveret met as children in the middle of the Sri Lankan civil war. They found each other in a torn-up nation, peering through propaganda to grasp a deeper truth. And in a demon-haunted wood, another act of violence linked them and propelled their souls on a journey throughout the ages.

No world can hold them, no life can bind them, and they'll never leave each other behind. As Annelid and Leveret reincarnate ever deeper into the future, they will chase the edge of human possibility. Tracing two souls through endless lifetimes, Rakesfall is a virtuosic exploration of what stories can be, a dark sci-fi epic unlike any that has come before.

Poetic and mind bending and incredibly smart. I had to rewind some of the more lyrical passages to enjoy multiple times. The physics and metaphysical concepts described made me look at the world differently.

Incredible story

I could not follow what was going on and was confused most of the time. Not engaging at all. Restarted once. Gave up ¾ of the way through.

Cons
1. The story is hard to follow. Just when you sink your teeth into a small part of it- Boom , massive change in setting, character, or plot.
2. No character stands out or is likable. Seriously, everyone is terrible.
3. Highly conceptual but none of the myriad of web strands connect (if you read the book you’ll get the pun).
Pros
1. I was inspired to learn a bit more about the Sri Lakan civil rights struggle.

Confused all the way through.
