Alone. Surrounded by monsters. Armed only with his fists... Time to fight.

Jack Rust was a disillusioned biologist with a PhD—almost. When an extraterrestrial AI calling itself the System invaded Earth and thrust it into a world of aliens, magic, and violence, Jack hoped to at least get some magic himself.

Nope.

Even worse, the System spawned a forest dungeon around him and a goblin in his face....

Armed with nothing but his fists, Jack must grow strong enough to survive hordes of monsters. He needs to return to civilization and find out what the heck is going on. He might even get magic—or not. Surprising himself, Jack discovers that violence is fun.

In this battle-ridden new world, Jack finds the life he always dreamed about. He won’t just survive. He will thrive.

Don't miss the start of this action-packed new LitRPG Apocalypse series from Valerios. Join Jack the brawler as he pummels everything that gets in his way with his fists on his road to mastery and power. It's perfect for fans of Primal Hunter, Defiance of the Fall, and lovers of all things progression fantasy and LitRPG.

I'm about 6 hours into the book and I'm deeply regretting buying it the main character is an idiot even though they specifically tell you that he almost has his ph D and that he is smart 5 or 6 times in the 1st 2 chapters. The 1st time he actually Increases his intelligence he immediately stops because he decides that a greater understanding of the world around him will not help him in any way only being able to punch harder will. He also mentioned several times that he has experienced with video games that the new world seems very game like and how all he needs is time to be able to adjust and yet he rushes through everything and doesn't try to actually get any more information from the system so he can better himself. I am tired of authors trying to tell you that their characters are smart only not knowing how to actually write a smart character.

How smart are you

story is okay.. the dialog can be soo bad sometimes. the premise is really good but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

so the story is great for a progression fantasy and it's good if you enjoy an OP MC which I do. But the Mc can seem really stupid sometimes because of the way the dialog was written.

really wanted to like it and I powered through till the end but I don't think I'll listen to a sequel if there is one.

I want to love it but I cant..

So the issue with this book is a self awareness issue with the author. He makes it a thing to point out regularly that the MC is smart. This comes off as insecure and it is something truly smart people do not tend to do. Then he proceeds to be completely unable to make his MC act or think smart. Quite the opposite really. Dude is a total brainless meathead. This to me means that the author likely thinks he is much smarter then he is, and that, really hurt the readers ability to relate to the mc. If he just did not mention the MC is smart I would not have any issues. If you want to write a ass kicking story with a meat head having fun in a system world. Awesome. I am there for it. But do not keep saying the dude is smart when every time we hear him reason, he is incredibly bad at it. Dude is a super dumb meathead. I mean some of the things he says and thinks are really nuts dumb. That is OK, I am fine with that, but own it. Don't keep saying you are smart when every thought you have disproves that fact. It makes people dislike your MC. This is bc he is not self aware and so does not live in the same world we do. Speaking of the world, I like it, its fun. I enjoy the overall story and love the LitRPG part. All good stuff, I am just being held back from liking the MC by his and therefor the authors lack of self awareness. You are not smart dude, just face it and move on. It doesn't matter. We don't need you to be smart. We need you to be honest, passionate and relatable. Funny is a bonus and please, the sake of all the gods, Stop Saying the MC is Smart. He really isn't man, I promise you.

Self awareness issue with author but fun world

The first couple of hours, the story and reader are hot garbage, do yourselves a serious favor and change reading speed to x1.05. It flows better, and you can no longer make out the reader breathing into the microphone. I never speed up books, but it was awful. Now, the story after the first couple hours? FANTASTIC: I can't express enough. It was a huge change. Once there was more of a rhythm to the story, it was great. I'm excited for another now! Anyway, positive vibes going forward, glad I kept at it until I got through the rough beginning! That being said, maybe I would have enjoyed it more, or let the dull opening slide, if I had read this one instead, but our reader has got it now, and I have faith in him for the rest! Thank you, everyone involved, for your work and efforts! I'm certain I will give the second one 5 stars across the board!

Great, with some concessions.
