Emmy Award winner Rita Mae Brown and her felicitous feline Sneaky Pie craft the 17th entry in the mega-selling Mrs. Murphy mystery series.

When murder befouls the idyllic winter wonderland of Crozet, Virginia, amateur sleuth Harry Haristeen takes up the investigation. Also on the scent are Harry's intrepid, four-legged friends - who never met a mystery they couldn't solve.

It was a good book that caught me off guard. Definitely a new Christmas story.

I was not expecting that plot twist.

This was the third or fourth book with murders by slit throats. Consider the many other methods! Once in a while Brown chooses a word which is correctly used but too “Highbrow “ in usage. If the society issues are not necessary for the plot, spend less time on them in the dialogue. The extended focus on these issues is confusing as they seem to go unresolved and the issues’ impact on the plot is not present. The stories are cute, sometimes funny. It took a long time but Harry is finally showing some understanding of her pets’ communications.

Enough of the slit throats
