After an embarrassing loss to her ex-girlfriend in their first basketball game of the season, Scottie Zajac gets into a fender bender with the worst possible person: her nemesis, Irene Abraham, who is as beautiful as she is mean. When the damage sends Irene's car to the shop for weeks' worth of repairs, the girls are forced to carpool for the foreseeable future.

Their rocky start only gets bumpier the more time they spend together. But when an opportunity presents itself for Scottie to get back at her toxic ex (and climb their school's social ladder at the same time), she bribes Irene into playing along.

I liked it more than I thought I would. It was a teen/YA romance, with all the requisite drama. There was an underlying complexity in the writing that made it all work. The MC was frustrating in her emotional handwringing, but it seemed like an accurate portrayal of teen romance. And both characters displayed a level of maturity that was honestly refreshing. Really well done.

Teen drama

I'm a sucker for rom-coms and this one didn't disappoint. It definitely has that more modern take where things don't fall into place out of nowhere, but it's a decent build-up of feelings over time, as well as realistic struggles with said emotions. I also like how maturely the characters end up dealing with their feelings instead of big blow-ups or just grand gestures for the sake of gestures. There's communication and healing and although, it definitely hurts at times to get through, the happy ending feels deserved by the end.

Decent premise, unexpected but amazing execution
