In alternating chapters, Naudus delivers the words of Alex, who worries about leaving her alcoholic mother and girlfriend. Ortiz renders shy Molly’s anxiety and ambivalence toward her overbearing Korean mother. What’s clear to both young women is their distaste for each other. Will the awkward and quiet high schooler be able to become the person she wants to be and have a chance with her crush at college? Will the confident girl with swagger be able to help and perhaps become a better person? This book is a wonderfully rich story of two young women struggling to know themselves, believe in themselves and have the confidence to be their true selves. Realistic, sweet, awkward, funny, heartfelt and full of truth. A great book narrated beautifully.
