Julien always thought he knew his duty...until an arranged marriage upends his future. Prince Julien of Escarland was the kingdom's spare. His duty is to quietly stand in the background at his brother's side, protecting him and his heirs. Julien's younger siblings might have duties as ambassadors or in a marriage of alliance that would take them away from Escarland, but not Julien.

Yet when it becomes clear that one more marriage is needed to secure the three-way alliance between the kingdoms of Kostaria, Tarenhiel, and Escarland, Julien agrees to an arranged marriage with a troll. He doesn't know their language, and he might not be strong enough to fit into their battle-focused culture, but other than that, how bad could it be?

Vriska always thought she knew her future. As King Rharreth's shield sister, she is duty-bound to protect him and his queen. But she never expected her duty to include an arranged marriage with a human, of all people.

An empire-hungry kingdom is lurking, seeking any weakness in the alliance. Will this final bond safeguard the alliance, or cause it to crumble? And can Julien and Vriska find love in a relationship based on duty?

Return to the snowy mountains of Kostaria in this final installment of the best-selling Elven Alliance series!

I enjoyed book six of the "Elven Alliance" series as much as the first five books. Prince Julien agreed to an arranged marriage with a troll in order to secure the three-way alliance between the Humans, the Elves, and the Trolls. King Rharreth of the Trolls asked his shield sister, Vriska, to agree to marry Prince Julien. The worldbuilding was very complex. The author created characters which were as complicated as the worlds each came from. I enjoyed Julien's and Vriska's story. I liked all the twists and turns. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Liz Brand's narration was great, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review which reflected my opinions.

To Fulfill One's Duty

Parents: PG13, very clean but geared towards the middle grade & young adult reader - adults will love it too
Language: none
Violence: moderate gore, fun fight scenes
Sexual content: none

I'm so sad to know that this is the last book!!! She is doing some books to fill in some missed stories between books or within the characters we all love, so I am looking forward to those. It just is so rare to find clean fantasy that doesn't fall short some where either in the plots, character development, or world building. These have kept my teenagers and I hooked and listening together (finding something that all 3 of them and I enjoy has become a task). I love in this book we get to see more of Julien and the prickly troll warrior Vriska and at the same time see updates from Farrendale and Essie as well as the others. These absolutely should be read in order and I HIGHLY recommend the entire series. I got pulled into this series with an invitation to review a couple books and have continued with the series and other books from this author on my own dime. 🤞That Tara changes her mind and expands on this series.

Liz Brand (5🌟) does a great job with the character differentiation and acting. She's really a lot of fun to listen to and I don't find the need to speed it up like I do on many other books.

Sad To See The End Of Such An Incredible Series!

I love this book series, and of you haven't listened to/read the first few books start with Essie and Farrendel's. first book NOW (you are welcome in advance).
narrator does a great job with the different voices. I think Queen Paige has a slightly annoying nasally voice but she's BARELY in it, probably less than 5minutes total spread out through the entire book.
the story is a perfect clean and swoony, but not embarrassing, I didn't feel weird listening to the audiobook with my elementary aged boys in the car with me.

Sometimes I think the characters lack depth, they are usually all so agreeable but this one was particularly great in that aspect

The continuity of characters and storyline, I like how it all goes together
