Now in development as a feature film with Amazon MGM Studios, with John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad attached to write the script!

Shield of Sparrows is a slow-burn, high-stakes romantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros—where enemies become lovers, monsters stalk a cursed realm, and a forgotten princess finds the strength to tear off her crown and become the warrior she was never meant to be.

The gods sent monsters to the five kingdoms to remind mortals they must kneel.

I've spent my life kneeling—to their will and to my father's. As a princess, my only duty is to wear the crown and obey the king.

I was never meant to rule. Never meant to fight. And I was never supposed to be the daughter who sealed an ancient treaty with her own blood.

But that changed the fateful day I stepped into my father's throne room. The day a legendary monster hunter sailed to our shores. The day a prince ruined my life.

Now I'm crossing treacherous lands beside a warrior who despises me as much as I despise him—bound to a future I didn't choose and a husband I barely know.

Everyone wants me to be something I'm not—a queen, a spy, a sacrifice.

But what if I refused the role chosen for me? What if I made my own rules? What if there's power in being underestimated?

And what if—for the first time—I reached for it?

Contains mature themes.

First of all, this book wrecked me. 11/10 stars. But the narration was very frustrating. I loved loved the main narrator, but the male voice was so low and hard to hear no matter how I adjusted my volume.

Excellent main narrator, but very hard to hear others

This one is not my favorite ever, but it was solid, I enjoyed the story (even if its myriad twists were getting exhausting by the end) and I look forward to its continuation, but what I really came here to say - what compelled me to leave my first ever review of an audiobook - is how strongly I dislike Odessa’s voice actress. I can’t quite explain what exactly was wrong but…it’s like she put an unnatural stress on certain syllables and it created a sort of lilt that I could not bear to listen to. This did not sound like a regional accent, which would be odd but not particularly grating. To me this just sounded so unnatural and truly annoying. That, on top having a voice that seems perhaps more suited for urban fantasy rather than court intrigue romantasy…forced me to switch from audible to kindle a 25% of the way in. They also missed the mark, I think, with the Guardian’s voice. It did not fit the man and was often unintelligible.

The writing, pacing, world building, slow burn were superb!!

Thr female narrator did an excellent job with doing both female and male voices. It was a teenie bit hard to differentiate her male voices every now and then, but that's nitpicky. Hearing the male narrator at the final chapter makes me SOOOO excited for next book.

Also, THAT CLIFFHANGER!!!

1000000/10 recommend. Every person who is interested in romantasy should read this book! ❤️
