The Navajo tribe's forced march from their homeland to Fort Sumner by white soldiers and settlers is dramatically and courageously told by young Bright Morning. Bright Morning was happy as she gazed across the beautiful valley that was the home of her tribe. She turned when Black Dog barked, and it was then that she saw the Spanish slavers riding straight toward her.

This is a must read or listen. It took me a little moment to allow this older fashioned recording to pull me in. It felt authentic somehow mire authentic somehow to the time. It is astonishing to listen to how portly feeling we had every right to dominate other people in such a fashion. To learn of the bravery of a people. I love to see how these true to life characters evolved.

Beautiful ans sad true story

I loved it. But I wish it was longer. I really liked when one of the sheep survived.after all those years.

Such a bougie book

This was a moving story and heartbreaking. It was a challenge to teach 8th graders and I would not recommend it for a younger audience. I do think it is a book everyone should read at least once in their lifetime though. Scott O’Dell has a wonderful way of bringing stories to life. Linda Stephen’s narrates well but at such a slow pace it made me sleepy at times.

A heartbreaking read
