A Marine Corps Commandant’s Professional Reading List Selection

The first in a new “authoritative, shocking” (Brad Meltzer, #1 New York Times bestselling author) nonfiction series examining the devastating terrorist attacks that changed the course of history from #1 New York Times bestselling author Jack Carr and Pulitzer Prize finalist James M. Scott, beginning with the 1983 Marine barracks bombing in Beirut.

1983: the United States Marine Corps experiences its greatest single-day loss of life since the Battle of Iwo Jima when a truck packed with explosives crashes into their headquarters and barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. This horrifying terrorist attack, which killed 241 servicemen, continues to influence US foreign policy and haunts the Marine Corps to this day.

Now, the full story is revealed as never before by Jack Carr and historian and Pulitzer Prize finalist James M. Scott with this “definitive, behind-the-scenes account of a mission and a fight that changed America” (Doug Stanton, #1 New York Times bestselling author). Based on comprehensive interviews with survivors, extensive military records, as well as personal letters, diaries, and photographs, this is “a masterwork of research and storytelling” (Peter Schweizer, #1 New York Times bestselling author).

As a Beirut era marine, the story brings back a lot of memories from that time, much different place for the United States Marine Corps. Great job.

Sobering and intriguing..

it was so horrible what those people went through. I could probably listen to Ray Porter read the phone book, he is wonderful, though I don’t think I can listen to this book again. Overall well worth the listen.

Excellent work but

Jack Carr's fiction is wildly entertaining, but Targeted: Beirut is by far his best work yet. Every person in America must read this book and remember it. The lessons from this event still have not been learned by the elected officials that put our military personnel in harms way while they dither over their petty power plays. This book should be read into the Congressional record and reread on the floors of the Senate and House every year. It should be required reading for every POTUS and cabinet member as well as every employee of the Pentagon. Thank you, Jack Carr.

The detail and recall of all aspects brings you to that dreadful day in American history that is easily forgotten by some but remains one of most devastating terrorist attacks on the United States to this day.

The detailed experiences of our Marines and their families leading up to and post attack.

My first 1stSgt was in Beirut. A great warrrior. They all were. A fantastic book to better understand how we got in such a bad place. I was lucky to be after this and have a better ROI wherever I went.

great listen
