Former gang member Y. Blak Moore grew up in Chicago’s housing projects before becoming a poet and noted novelist. His gritty fiction captures the mean streets with an authenticity few writers can match. The Apostles run Chicago’s streets. Now “Solemn Shawn,” their legendary leader, wants out. But the head of The Governors has a score to settle. So before Shawn can make a better life for his pregnant girlfriend, he must fight one last war.

Y. Blak Moore is a great writer. But the ending of The Apostles failed me. There was this build up to what felt like should have been a great climax and an amazing ending. Rather, it was a great build up, a subpar climax, and a letdown of an ending. I get the concept of stories like this rarely have happy endings. But, the story just…kind of…ended. And that is it. The story ends. It felt like he got tired of writing the story and just wrapped it all up to move on. Characters disappeared without a word or clue. Some characters were very sporadic and seemingly pointless. With all that, I still give the book four stars! Worth all that and more. I love his writings.
